WROC SEEKS NEWS DIRECTOR

Re: WROC -Status Quo

This is straight out of the News Central School of Journalism. In what story would Ben Franklin be casually mentioned as a president of the United States on a local newscast I have to ask? As for a coop-de-ta, I can only hope it was a teleprompter read error and the person didn't actually believe it was pronounced that way.

Perhaps the teleprompter was also malfunctioning the night the anchor pronounced the word mischief: Miss-Chief.

Look I am the last person on Earth to be critical of people making mistakes. I've made so many on-air gaffes in my life I gave up counting. However we are talking here about TV not radio. In radio normally it's a one-man-band. In a TV operation a station should have proof-readers besides the reporter or on-air anchor.

My question, despite the sarcasm from the former King of Egypt, was a legitimate one. Who monitors what goes out on the air at 31 and 8? And if mistakes are made, does anyone point them out to the offender?

If you're referring to me, Mark, Kohoutek is the name of a comet...not an Egyptian King.
Further, it was named after a Czech astronomer, and not a Pharaoh.

And now: the answer to your questions.

"NO ONE" and "HARDLY EVER"

I stand corrected. You mean to say that you don't have an executive producer, or writers that proof-read copy before the anchors get it? Or even have someone to proof the anchor's copy? Amazing!

Don't we have anything better to do than to talk about WROC and their errors/mistakes? I know I don't contribute a whole lot to the boards, but the topic seems a bit drawn out.

I happen to agree that a great deal of time is spent lamenting on Channels 8 and 31. If those in charge at WROC and WUHF and a majority of the TV viewing audience isn't interested in the product those stations air, then why should those of us posting on here waste time writing about it?

We could make fun of WHEC for a change.

Like how Ray-lo last week said that two of the kids that died in the Bay St. fire took special classes at their school and then proceeded to speculate on air that perhaps that's why they didn't make it out alive.
