Granted, the bug they'd been using for the last few years, with the teeny-tiny hours-minutes-seconds display and temp, was darned near illegible on anything but a big screen.
And granted, further, that the coming of DTV (not that WROC-DT is actually on the air in a useful fashion) and digital carriage of SD signals on Time Warner, Dish and DirecTV adds a delay to the signal that makes the "seconds" part of the display inaccurate for many viewers.
But still - the new replacement, in a different font from the rest of WROC's package and really poorly spaced out, is about as butt-ugly a piece of graphics as I can recall seeing on local TV in many years, and that's when it's functioning properly, appearing superimposed beneath the rectangular "WROC 8" logo during newscasts and network IDs.
For the last few nights, though, there's been something goofy happening in WROC's master control, with the black (and sometimes white) time-and-temp appearing almost randomly over network programming, network spots, local spots, etc. There's at least one local advertiser that really should be getting make-goods as a result, since the bug obscures its phone number throughout the spot.
Sure, these things need to be worked out - but isn't there a "preview" bus for that, so we don't have to see this mess on the air?
I'm so, so, so very glad I get WIVB-DT and sometimes WTVH-DT for the times when I really want to watch CBS clearly!<P ID="signature">______________
