BTW, It was me who heard the test. The signal was the same as the original up here in Warrior. I have not heard WRTR test on 105.9 yet, Id assume that is coming Tuesday night, as per the FCC filing, WRTR has to test after WENN.

Also, a little birdy told me The X is moving to the new tower in the coming weeks.

P.S. WZRR is already coming out swinging, and RTR isn't moving to town for 2 more days. Their latest promo stated "high atop red mountain, overlooking the magic city" " W Z R R BIRMINGHAM". Note: Even though RTR is based in Tuscaloosa, their new signal is over twice that of The X's current signal and is many miles northeast, so it will very much cover Birmingham. Clear Channel already did in Cox's Oldies format with Magic...Emminent domain, anyone?Edited by Sab on 08/30/05 07:06 AM.

I do not see how the new WRTR signal is going to impact Birmingham much because the signal will not really be go enough in Jefferson County.
Some thing is wrong with information out there for WRAX current signal. I checked radio locator, the FCC FM Query, Recnet and can not find the actual signal WRAX uses right now. It use to be out there but every one of those sites show only the "official" license which reflects the old signal at 100.7 and the construction permit for the city of license change to Helena and modified signal. Something has to be screwed up related to the hold up in the final approval of Anniston's 100.5 move into Atlanta. WRAX is broadcasting at C1 facilities with 85kw now but not yet at the CP found for the upcoming facility change that will improve Birmingham coverage even more.
WRAX's actual current signal is at 100.5 and is stronger in Birmingham than the new 105.9 WRTR will possibly ever be.

I honestly can't see that WRAX is at 85kw now. The signal is the same as it has been since WANZ debuted a few years back and if it was 85kw, no matter where it is at, it wouldnt have so much interference in all of Jefferson County. I cant pick it up on the road anywhere decent, until I get to McCalla. I understand that you are referring to the old old signal at 100.7 and I can agree with you there as far as my misjudgement of signal strength. Point is, it may be a C1, but it is not 85kw, theres no way, maybe 45 or 50kw tops.

Also, a 25kw signal from Brookwood should have no problem covering Birmingham. I mean hell, I can get their current signal up here in Warrior most of the time on my outdoor antenna, and they're only running at 6kw now.

Jaleo...er, uh, Sab, all of the coverage maps from the FCC Query, Radio-Locator, and RECnet say otherwise. Birmingham would get fringe coverage at best, under normal conditions. And fringe coverage doesn't exactly "cover" an area. And you're wrong--105.9's Tuscaloosa signal is SOUTHWEST of the Magic City, not northeast.

Is that signal you get in Warrior listenable for a reasonable amount of time? I'd bet it isn't. BTW, BamaWOLF beat you by a day hearing 105.5's testing, so no cookies for you. ______________

The maps seem to show the coverage as being essentially the same as it is now, namely pretty useless in Birmingham proper. Unless CC is planning to flip formats instead of frequencies, Rock 99 is safe.

And I think he meant that the new location was northeast of the old location, which it is, but not far enough to affect anything.

no, not really, he told me and i posted it... the only thing i can hear on 105.5 at night is WVNA (WYTM during the day) and WNRQ on 105.9

Yes, clichemoth was right, Im referring to WRTR's new signal, which is miles northeast of the current one.

Adding to what clichemoth said, it isn't going to have a huge impact immediately, as this is still a Tuscaloosa station. Yes, I know what the "maps" online say, but I also know what I hear on my radio. I can recieve WRTR in my car as well, (fading in and out), and Im about 20 miles NE of the furthest fringe line. The verdict is out as to whether or not the new signal will be much stronger, I hope to have an answer to that when the flip happens, or if I catch WRTR testing on 105.9.

Okay, now you're just twisting my words. You brought up that the signal was not good where I was. I rebuttaled saying that I agreed it was not very good. As for the covering thing, yes I did say that, and it has yet to be seen. I could be dead wrong, but Im willing to take the chance.

Haha, it's funny how you think Im someone else. You think this even though I claim to be Dingo's buddy, and he has even responded that I am his buddy. This is my first time posting at this board, he's had me browsing it for a while. But its posters like yourself, who like to start flame-wars, that have kept me from posting.

Anyways, I had a reason to post. As of 1:23AM on Sept. 1st: WENN has flipped to 105.5, they had already flipped by the time I got home at 11pm. WRTR has yet to flip to 105.9 for reasons I don't know. (I can confirm this because I'm currently getting a very very faint signal every so often from Praise 105.9 in Jackson.)

---Before I go any further I want to say once again, I listen via an outdoor antenna and as far as B'ham stations go I do base judgement when I am on the road, not by how I recieve it at home. Also note that Im pretty far north of B'ham, so in reality, how I recieve a signal is about where the signal would be downtown, only slightly stronger.---

Point is, I can hear WRTR cutting in every so often, they are testing on the frequency. The snippets I get are loud and clear, but I will not judge the signal until they actually do flip. I want to be able to get in my car and drive around B'ham to give an exact assessment. As soon as I can, I will.

According to the FCC filing, WENN was to test before WRTR. So WRTR doesnt have to flip yet, but WENN's new signal is 30kw, so Im positive that many in eastern Tuscaloosa County will not be happy campers if the flip doesn't take place soon. I assume it should sometime this morning, at least by tomorrow. We shall see.______________

I just recieved word from CC Tuscaloosa that WRTR did indeed flip to 105.9, but for the time being they are on, and Im quoting, "experimental low power" due to the hurricane. Tuscaloosa was hit very hard by the hurricane. They will only be on this power for a very short time, but no exact time frame was given.______________

According to radio-locator, the upgrade for WENN has it sending a local signal as far south as northern Chilton county. Although there's some variance to that I'm sure, here in southern Shelby county, I'm not receiving WENN on 105.5 much better than I did with the class A facilities they had on 105.9 (the signal is even more horrid driving in my car). Radio-locator has the CP at 29500 watts @ 624 ft. Is WENN still not up to the full 29.5 kw yet?

I honestly believe that a permanent ban should be in order.

I've then saying that for the longest. In a time like this with copious amounts of people (especially babies and infants) are suffering and dying in New Orleans, the last thing on my mind is to be fighting with somebody over something so petty and pointless. But I guess some of us on here just don't care.

P.S., The X can respond if you want and I really don't care at this point after a tragedy of recent, but remember this words: "There won't be any good that will come to you until you do right by others". Take your name calling energy an put it into good use like donating money, clothes, food, etc to the Red Cross, etc. because I am.

I wasn't gonna join in on this, but what the hell. I know how you feel. He just attacked me out of nowhere a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately you are just the next person on his list. Pretty soon he will be fighting with every member that posts here. According to him, everyone (including me) on this site is "Jaleo" using a different name. That's what I got accused of, and I've never even done or said anything to him before. He just woke up and descided one day, "hey, I'll attack some folks" and I was on the hitlist for some reason. I think our moderators have abandoned this forum. Maybe we should take this up with the site owners because no one can have a conversation without him attacking atleast one person. You think people would learn to be kind and support people with the rescent events, but I guess some people are just so cold hearted that it doesn't effect them. They would wrather start meaningless arguments with people they don't even know. It's sad really.
