WRXP flips to Sports

nd2023

Banned
ESPN has LMAed 101.9 from Emmis, and it's slated to flip to a simulcast of 1050 AM at 3:00 PM next Monday.

I was listening to the station this week and thinking how great they sound. This usually means a format change is coming but then they started playing AC/DC which clearly does not fit with the format and then I knew nothing has changed.

If it was not for that and April fools I would have believed the OP's post.

I agree. This station has actually made me sick of AC/DC. They can't go 1 hour without playing one of their songs. This morning, Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie, really? Just call it a classic rock station if you're going to do that.

Maybe RXPInsider can tell us what the deal is with the frequent AC/DC rotation. It has become somewhat of a joke with the station and if it is that obvious to the listeners, I would guess there is likely an internal debate on the silliness of it.

Especially considering that AC/DC have almost nothing in common with over half of everything else 'RXP plays and they definitely don't fit in with the "hipster" vibe of the jocks/imaging. I believe when Sirius and XM fist merged, there was an all AC/DC channel that was only in existence for several months while they were trying to figure out which stations would remain in the plan.

One word: research. According to the consultant in Colorado, ACDC is a top-testing band, and so the powers that be up here blindly incorporate as much of their music into the station as possible.

Whether or not it sounds right or makes sense is irrelevant: D'aurelio, Cameron, et al are blindly following the numbers in the mistaken belief that ACDC fans from across the tri-state area will begin tuning in and discovering the "genius" that is WRXP.

LOL. I figured it had to be something to that effect. Thanks for passing that on.

Nirvana haven't released any new material in over 15 years.

As an aside, PLEASE BLOW UP 'RXP- sports, country, dance, Idc what!! And, I am a rock fan and I really won't miss 'RXP if it's gone.

Gotta love how corporate suits in Colorado control what gets played in NYC.
