WRXP MUSIC DIRECTOR: ON THE WAY OUT

Rumor has it that Bryan Schock, who came in from San Diego to take the gig as 101.9's music director, is checking out and moving back to Ess Dee.

After happily chugging the punch for a year, he's now come to the realization that RXP is a lost cause, and there's no possible hope for a turnaround.

No need to wonder what's next for the New York Rock Experience, however: Leslie Fram, the station's PD, will most likely take over the MD tasks. And until ESPN gets the price that it wants for the 101.9 frequency, the station will continue to limp, drool, and suffer through '09.

Four words - "Format of the Month"... ??? (hey, Tony S, where are you?? "Dance 102" sounds kinda nice... :-*)

How can they? They're still trying to make up their mind as to what kind of station they should be!!

Schock exits almost exactly one year after setting foot in the place. Tears are not being shed over this at 395 Hudson.

And WRXP continues directionless.

Knowing how Emmis goes to great lengths to conceal the real reasons for personnel shifts with elaborate stories about "growing consultancies," "forming new companies," "enduring personal tragedies," etc., one has to wonder what the real back story is here.

writing on the wall, baby :) - writing on the wall...kinda like what happened when Bob Buchmann left the PD job at Q104 (in 2008) and last week took a PD job out West around the SAME time that the Clear Channel nightmare was going on...it's a safe bet that Schock may have seen the writing on the wall at the "P" :) and basically, to quote Don McLean's 1972 hit "American Pie", "grabbed the last plane for the Coast" - and since Emmis is good at the cover-up thing, i seriously doubt that the TRUTH will EVER come out UNLESS Schock comes out with a straight-up statement himself!!

This could very well end up being the final nail in the coffin. But I'd love to see this signal a shift towards a straight-up Alternative format. A good percentage of their playlist consists of Alternative as it is, and many fans of that music do not want to sit through Boston and Van Halen to get their fix. Conversely, your typical classic rock fan is likely to stick to Q104.3. I'm not suggesting this format would be a major ratings winner, but I think they'd at least be able to build a steady, loyal audience, and maybe give K-Rock a run for their money. Really, what do they have to lose?

THAT'S what they get for not playing Iggy & The Stooges and The New York Dolls!

Never mind him... he's still obsessed with wanting to hear has-been rock bands on that station...

Thanks a bunch... :) but like i indicated before, until 'RXP makes up its collective mind over what KIND of rock station THEY want to be, or decides to do yet another format change, it don't even really matter what KIND of rock music they play ("Dance 102" sounds kinda catchy, though... ;))

I would listen if it were alternative more... I really wish NY had a station that you could just turn on Like WCCC here in CT and listen all day and evening without getting sick of what they play. I get em up in Danbury in my dorm and it doesn't seem to leave the frequency :p My dorm mates love it and they did not even listen to radio until I showed the CCC! when I am on the train or car etc down towards greenwich internet radio has taken over from my laptop or occasionally RXP k-rock, q-104, Z100 or 106.1 WBLI...

Man, I can't listen to 'CCC for more than 20 minutes without feeling like I'm killing brain cells. Shinedown, Theory Of A Deadman, Avenged Sevenfold, Buckcherry, etc....

NO THANKS!

boy, i recently listened to RXP, actually just this past sun. I must say it wasn't that bad, could have been a lot better, with a more alternative direction. I agree with all of you that this is there time to capitalize on lame-rock by shifting toward an alternative G'Rock sound and maybe get all those listeners before they switch to saltelite. Just a thought, but if I was PD, the day I heard G-Rock was no more, I would have adjusted my station to sound very similar to it and fill the void.

Why didn't they ever give CHILL this much time ????   That was the greatest station, it's just needed to sound "cooler" mixed in with some younger sounding 30 year old jocks mixed in. THAT WAS MY FAVORITE STATION--- WHAT A SHAME .

Do you really know him that well that you can be so sure that he is not really moving back to San Diego for personal reasons?

Knowing EMMIS is what's key here.

Why would they lie about personal-type issues? He's not getting numbers.

I was listening to 'RXP on Saturday night/Sunday morning and heard a Strokes song segue into Elton John! Now if that doesn't constitute absurdity, I don't know what does!

Did you like both songs?

Why does every station Have to have a format thats FAMILIAR?Honestly I'd rather see q104 or 92.3 die than hear 101.9 go away.Hearing the same crap over and over is LAME!Hearing a variety of differnt music (even though I know its ROCK music whatever way you shine it) is neat.Personally if they interviewed people in NYC and selected the music they like then every station would be Ethnic meaning Spanish,or Urban.
101.9 should steer more alternative rock with a tiny select favorite classic rock and AAA songs ,now that would be awesome! Today I heard ALOT more classic rock than oddball songs on 101.9 .....Is that a good thing? 107.1 the Peak is very close to 101.9 to me,what you all think?
