WRXP Ratings / PPM

No Stooges; No NY Dolls: No ratings........

That's not the answer. It's because RXP refuses to adopt to a nation of niches. Spoon fans don't want to hear Aerosmith and vice versa.

i'm sure you meant to say 'refuses to adapt'...and it's cos we ain't hearing no Wayne County or Cherry Vanilla tracks, and dat's dat......

RXP may be refusing to adapt, but I'm pretty certain that neither the New York Dolls nor Wayne Country would save the station (and that's not taking anything away from them, it's the reality of commercial radio today and what "works").

I don't mind hearing an occasional Aerosmith song (I don't think songs from their critcally acclaimed Rocks album get played too often), but 'RXP needs to steer clear of songs you can hear over and over again on either K-Rock or the Q.

well, it's pretty clear what's not working...

Just because something's not working doesn't automatically mean that what you (or anyone else) suggests will work instead.

That pretty much sums it up. And since the latter audience is already served by Q104.3 and K-Rock, why not cater to the former? It's not like their ratings could get any worse.

Then I'm surprised RXP is still on the air after this armageddonous set of music they played on Thu 8/21 around 3pm....

WRXP - Aug 21, 2008

2:52:37 PM SPOON Don't You Evah
2:56:37 PM BEATLES Strawberry Fields Forever
3:00:37 PM AEROSMITH Rag Doll
3:04:37 PM HOLD STEADY Sequestered In Memphis
3:08:37 PM CROW, SHERYL My Favorite Mistake
3:13:37 PM NEW YORK DOLLS Personality Crisis

they actually played The New York Dolls? ...maybe the inclusion in Guitar Hero:Aerosmith helped, but whatever the reason, that's great; now just tack on the original version of "Max's Kansas City,1976" by Wayne County and we're rolling, Nu Yawk style!

Yes, I am sure that we will see them crack at least a 3 share in the next book as the result of playing the New York Dolls. ::)

They've been playing the New York Dolls (well at least "Personality Crisis"), for awhile, the problem is they keep playing stuff like "Centerfold" by J.Geils and of course bad Aerosmith songs like "Dude looks like a Lady", or "Rag Doll"...also they still play "Nickelback"...basically the music mix hasn't changed much since they signed on..

well they won't crack a 3 with the rock audience by playing the same predictable stuff ; that works with the oldies crowd(which I am part of).
but it don't fly with rockers;
playing iconic tracks by iconic(but seldom heard on radio)figures like The Dolls,Wayne County,The Stooges and Cherry Vanilla adds an instant 'cred' glow, and those tunes pass as new music, as NY radio was too timid and boring to play them when they were new...

Its always been the reality. Did the NY Dolls ever help any station get ratings?
Please dont bring up the WLIR myth. They were NEVER dominant in NYC.

WLIR NEVER played The Dolls, County, Stooges or Vanilla(or Psychotic Frogs, for that matter) .....just wimpy New Wave Dance records...THAT'S why WLIR is OFF the air...LOL

Wow...you mean they went six songs without playing B O S T O N??

I'm schocked.....

the original "Max's Kansas City 1976" track by Wayne County is such a classic NY rock sign post ,name checking all the bands that came out of the late 70s NY rock scene and celebrating NY as the place where it all happens, this track REALLY belongs in the mix for 'cred' purposes(and it's a great, involving song)

That particular song is only available on a now out-of-print Rhino compilation of the late '70s New York punk scene. However, you might have a shot at hearing something by Lance Loud and the Mumps. :)
