WRZN GOES TALK - ADDS OCALA TRANSLATOR

Jeff said:
It looks like they are changing the call letters of 101.7 to WPLL-FM. Any hints with that???

Those call letters were associated with the former WSHE 103.5 Fort Lauderdale in the mid 90s when Paxson Communications owned the station. It was an alternative station known as Planet Radio. If this is what Marc Radio has in mind for 101.7, then it appears they may be attempting to target Gainesville. It could also mean Play which would indicate either adult contemporary, CHR or sports.

At this point, however, we are only speculating... It could mean most anything...

It could still be news/talk; a station that they hope will have a lot of PuLL.

There is no way 101.7 could target Gainesville with that signal. After all this, what a letdown if it's Fox news/talk on 980/720/100.1/101.7!

I agree 101.7 will never hit Gainesville with its current signal, nor can the signal be improved enough to make it a marketable Gainesville signal. The only reason WTMG performs as well as it does with its inferior, yet better, rimshot signal is because 101.3 is filling a market void that no other station is filling. That leaves two obvious options for the new WPLL: 1) simulcast with WRZN and WDVH to give the news-talk format full TSA coverage; or, 2) leave it classic country catering to Levy and Gilchrist counties as a local signal.
