WSBA loses again

In what can only be described as yet another dismal failure, WSBA has lost out the York Revolution broadcasts to WOYK.

It's simply amazing how far that place has fallen. The future can NOT be very good there for anyone, especially thise involved with sports.

So....does this mean no more Orioles on WOYK?

You ARE kidding right?? No one goes to their games, let alone actually listens to them anymore. They might as well rename themselves the Baltimore expO's. Smart move by 1350 to get the local listeners and revenue.

Two questions then.....

Will WPDC, WOYK's sister station in E-town, still do the Orioles or will they stay with Sporting News programming?

And how long til WSBA dumps their live morning programming in favor of a syndicated program?

Prediction-- The Phillies will be moved to WSBA from 1440, a station that does not exist at night when most of the games are played.
Question--- Who hires the announcers for the Rev's? Henry and Sutton are a very good pair for a low level minor league team in small market York. If Henry would lose his central Pa accent he would be able to move out to a larger market. For a guy under 25-26 he is a talent waiting to be discovered.
******************************************************************************************************WSBA can of course continue to air ultra right wing Michael Savage and not carry any sports at night.

Sutton won't be available to do the games on OYK.....unless further Cumulus cutbacks are coming that would put him poy in the streets. Henry will probably be a solo act.

I could see Phillies night and weekend games going to SBA with the weekday games remaining on 1440. I don't see Rush & Hannity getting bumped for baseball.

Already announced that Darrell Henry will be doing the games on WOYK, as for Sutton, his food-induced babbling will stay with WSBA (maybe).

Predictions: WSBA will get the Phils. WGLD goes silent. More cutbacks, which were rumored this week, but didn't happen. The York operation ceases as all the stations move to Harrisburg to save more mnoney and give the Dickeys more dollars. WSOX goes country as long time rumored and WARM goes more of a classic rock station. Both stations get new PDS and the station management has a new look and new faces.

Christmas wish?????????

Very interesting thoughts concerning Cumulus York. Already, a York licensed the station, WQXA is housed in a Camp Hill Citadel facility.

Since SOX is already a Classic Hits station, it would be an easy transition to Classic Rock. Dump the Motown and Bee Gees music and you're on your way. But...if there's any thought of that.....they better make that move soon because.....others may have that in mind. A new year is almost upon us.

WARM should flip to CHR. That's the whole in the York market right now.

Somebody's gotta do something!!!
Either Warm or Mix 106.7 should go more Classic Rock....
"Sox" is doing to well in York to change. The "River" has their "Daypart" in Harrisburg,
and not really anywhere else...So, That leaves Lancaster and York open for a Good Classic
Rock station, and by good, I mean somebody who isn't playing the SAME OLD music over and
over again..They have to get somebody from outside the "Box" to vamp up their playlist.

You can not keep playing the same stuff that people already have on their I-pod.
You will have to inject music that is still good and nobody has heard in the last twenty
years.. You have to make people go "Wow," did you just hear what "So and So" played? I
haven't heard that in years!!"
And I'm not saying you have to play "Heavy Metal" or Soft Rock, BUT, you could
"Daypart those particular "Genres".
Warm or MIX could do this gradually too, But, you can not do it willy nilly.

I think alot of the "Corporate" minds in radio are too clueless to pull this off.
They haven't paid attention to music enough to know what's good.

Whoever wants to go Country can go Country, that's a pretty safe bet. But you're
going up against some established stations, and I couldn't care LESS about Country music.

Personally, I prefer my "WMP'. Why, because I know what I want to hear. I live in Berks,
and I can get Warm, Mix,"TPA" the "River" and the "Hawk" out of Allentown. When I have to
listen to radio I prefer"MGK", because they mix it up the "best".
It's not GREAT, but it's listenable. More than I can say for "Warm" and "Mix".

Everybody wants to "Daypart" and just go for their "local" ratings. A couple of these
stations are POWERFUL. They could "Kick it" in Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, and some of
them even Reading. I don't get why somebody doesn't do that!! Mix is in a perfect position
to do that (remember CAT Country?).

Just remember, in this day and age MUSIC is the key. If you are playing the SAME music
people have on their I-POD or I-tunes. They are going to TUNE out!!!

But, That's just my opinion, I could be wrong" (Thank you Dennis Miller)

There ya go "birdawg" I said it!!

The local Cumulus brass has made some bone headed moves this year but even they're not dumb enough to turn WARM into a Classic Rock station when they already have a Classic Hits station WSOX in the building.

Actually, 98.5 the Peak could easily transition into a Classic Rock station. They already daypart some Zeppelin and AC DC tunes. Just go further. Other than the morning show, they could use some jock upgrades...people on the air with some attitude. Do that, and they'll own the Classic Rock market in York.

If WSBA gets the Phillies, it would be well worth it to listen to broadcast icons Jim Horn and Gary Sutton instantly switching their allegiance to the Phightin's. I can just hear the hard-hitting Hot Stove analysis that first day on York's Morning News:

JIM: I just love the Phillie Phanatic, don't you, Gary?
GARY: I sure do, Jim!
JIM: OK, time for Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update!

Plus, with the Phils potentially being the third ballclub broadcast on the Mighty 910 in the past decade, they could make their call letters stand for "We Select Baseball Arbitrarily." Awesome bumper sticker.

What a puzzle to follow! As some have state previously, it's amazing how WSBA continues to find ways to lose!

Informed sources report that the Orioles were unhappy with WOYK. The American League team has been holding talks with WSBA off and on the past several days, in an effort to bring the team back to the AM 910 airwaves. Reportedly, promotional dollars, a well-educated staff, among other reasons, were some of the problems facing WOYK. Additionally, the Phillies would be bumped to the ESPN affiliate of Cumulus Media. Yet, there would be no intelligent baseball staff on board at any of stations of Cumulus. Thoughts...

You're assuming that Jim Horn knows the Philly Phanatic is associated with the Phillies ball club!

The Orioles think they'll find promotional dollars at WSBA? The O's can't even find a middle reliever.
