WSBG Dies Thursday May 3

Heard a sweeper on "The Bone" that states that 'ZZO is old and blah, blah, blah but if it weren't for the jockless format of "The Bone", I wouldn't be able to tell the 2 apart. They play the exact same music in the same market. Whats wrong with being a little different and maybe a little harder? 97.9X out of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area has it down. Perfect mix of Classic tunes and new metal/rock. Just can't get it at work so I'm stuck listening to the same old ('ZZO), same old (The Bone).

Another gem on the bone: "The only station in the valley that has the balls to play real rock!" Memo to Nassau: YOU ARE A COPYCAT OF 'ZZO!!! SAME MUSIC, NOTHING DIFFERENT! GOING BACK TO 'ZZO IN 3-2-1!

Re: 107 the Bone

So let's see in one week you are comparing 107 the Bone to WZZO. I'd take that as a complement as WZZO is celebrating 30 years, the Bone is about a week old. We will definately make WZZO better and as a whole rock radio in the Valley will improve. Nothing like competition!

What is your opinion of Free Beer and Hot Wings versus Bear Man and Keith?

You'll notice a difference come another week or so in the music this will be an Active Rock/Alternative station when it is complete, with personality and live jocks starting soon. A couple of real surprizes too. We are young and this was not what we planned, but sometimes that makes for great radio.

You guys wrote off the Hawk when we started as "wimp rock." The Hawk has dominated the Lehigh Valley for the past six years as the #1 station Persons 25-54. Let's see if we can repeat in the lower demographics. Do not bet against.

Kindest Regards,
Rick Musselman

The Bearman and Keith blow F B & H away !! F B & H yap too damn much. They aren't funny. They use profanity because they have no talent. People hear that on radio and think oh cool! He said bastard or whatever. If they had any talent, they wouldn't have to use profanity and make jokes about rape and so on. IMO, this is a cover for lack of talent. These guys aren't local. The Beearman and Keith are. I don't see how anyone would think that these guys can surpass The Bearman and Keith.

People are beating up The Bone because it's for 1, a total copy of Z-95, 2 the music programming is terrible. It sounds like nobody is even attempting to make it sound good. To me, it sounds like a cd player on shuffle mode. It also seemed like there was very little thought put into the programming process. If memory serves me correctly I think I heard 2 Led Zep songs within the first hour and a half after the launch. It's just the same ol busted record over and over again.

I'm kinda curious to know why it wasn't planned better. Why launch something half azzed? I think if more thought were put into the programming at the start, a real morning show and live jocks, it would have been received in a totally different way. Sindicated programming sucks! These people don't know us and we don't know them. It makes a difference.

anyway, I look forward to those changes and the surprises you mentioned. Is the Stoshman making a comeback!!??? Now that would be one hell of a surprise!!!!! :)

"We will definately make WZZO better and as a whole rock radio in the Valley will improve"

You'll make WZZO better? When did you buy ZZO? Are you saying you will be making ZZO better...by comparison??

I can't even follow the logic here and I doubt this is Rick posting. And off-topic: How could your spelling be so bad? Try "definitely." And missing punctuation. This is someone's kid posting. I'm sorry but in order to illustrate the point that this must be a child posting, I need to request a few corrections before this error-riddled post is even understandable. My intent is not to brow beat someone on grammar--it's to support my theory that this was not possibly posted by a college educated corporate executive. I get spam that's more intelligible than this post. Someone's misrepresenting themselves.

"You'll notice a difference come another week or so in the music this will be an Active Rock/Alternative station when it is complete, with personality and live jocks starting soon." How many sentences did you intend for this one run-on sentence to be?

"A couple of real surprizes too." Duuuuh.

"I'd take that as a complement..." The word you were looking for was "compliment." "Complement" refers to something physical that is a positive addition or accent to something else physical--like ketchup to a hamburger. Nobody uses the obscure spelling of the word that has a different meaning than intended when attempting to misspell the more commonly used "compliment." Either stop posting while drinking or go buy a dictionary. Better yet, go to bed. You have "skool" in the morning. rofl

I expect the occasional typo when regular people post--I make typos all the time--but when a high-falluting corporate radio exec comes in and posts something with third grade grammar goofs and irregularities in every single sentence, I have to think "12-year old poser." And yes I meant "poser," not "poster."

Back on topic: What happens to your argument of FCC violations and fear of fines and other regulatory reprisals regarding Gary's comments when you launch a new radio station format in the same region with crude humor, erection innuendo in nearly every sweeper, and daily shock jock commentary that alienates women listeners and has people turning off the station when playing within earshot of children??

I guarantee you I will not receive a reply to my last question. You just can't bandaid bad management decisions and it's even more difficult to explain them away.

Yeah, maybe. It was a good question. I can't handle the F B @ H show. I am not offended by their cheezy jokes and profanity. I'm bothered because they are no talent phonies!! I mean think about it, what would they be without the trash talk? What would they talk about?

mussels I assume, by what others have posted, is an executive with Nassau, correct? If it is you, this is what turns me off to your new station. You fire Gary Smith for insensitive remarks towards women but this new station of yours insults women during every commercial break. Hello pot, you're black! I hope I didn't offend any pots out there. Your new station claims to be the real rock station of the valley but you copycat 'ZZO almost song for song. You tell me that you'll take that as a "complement" because they've been around for 30 years. My question to you: How freaking hard do you think it is to copycat what another does and claim it to be your own? If what you say is true about the format, my interest is still peaked, if for any reason because I am sick of listening to the same old songs every day on 'ZZO and I refuse to go the satellite route. As for the AM show? Bleh! Same old, same old wanna be shock jocks. Dime a dozen. Give me Bear Man and Keith every morning. Their local, with local ties and they do much to support the Lehigh Valley and that says something to me. They, along with Tori are about the only good things on 'ZZO right now.

Just like I said.... They can change the music, that's fine but I will not listen between 5 and 9am just like many others as long as the F B & H crap is on. That needs to go before a play list revamp.

I'm with you on that. I'm not a big fan of syndicated radio shows for lack of local flair anyway and listening to these guys is just painful.

OK! Got "The Bone" on today and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. Disturbed, Zombie, Korn, Sublime, Rage, thats more like it!!! I think you're onto something. This is precisely the kind of rock you don't find on 'ZZO, save for 2 o'clock in the morning. Way to go "Bone", now get rid of the guys in the morning and bring in some Jocks and a morning team and I'm there full time.

Yeah, it's better but there is still too much stuff being played that's been beat to death. They are still playing stuff that can be heard on The Hawk and Z-95 as well as Frank FM but yeah, it's better but the bone could be a bit harder. There was one thing I heard that I just had to laugh at. I heard a sweeper saying that zzo gives watered down rock and only The Bone gives a 100 proof (or something like that) I heard that and guess what comes on?? Jani's got a gun!! C'MON!!! That would have been the perfect chance for something loud and "in your face" that zzo doesn't play! I think someone is still sleeping at the wheel here.

I agree those wannabe shock jocks need to go. I can't listen to them. Until they do better with a morning show, I will switch between Michales & Lane, Bearman & Keith. Real people, real talent and a real show. The Bone can keep it's Stale Beer & Rotten Wings.

I guess I'm officially a listener as I have had the station on now for 2 days. Walk by Pantera? I mean how can I not listen? Keep it up Bone! YEAHMAN!!

Can you listen online? 97.9X, http://www.979x.com streams on the Internet.

Not while I'm at work unfortunately. When I'm home, I'm within range of 97.9. I just know that from working in the East Stroudsburg area for many years, we've never had a radio station geared towards the younger alterna rock/metal/hard rock crowd (PMR in the early 90's before it became KRZ's second tower, the exception). 'ZZO is just ok anymore. Too many classics, not enough cutting edge rock until it becomes mainstream rock. You get tired of hearing the same 5 VH, AC/DC, Zep, Who, G&R, Rush tunes everyday. Keep it up Bone. Stay hard, stay heavy!

Good Luck with the "New" stations. It will be interesting to see what they do with the frequencies next year.

They will probably put them up for sale, if they aren't already on the block. Nassau loves to speculate in broadcast properties, much as commodities traders in the Midwest speculate in pork bellies and land developers speculate in Florida real estate. Their modus operandi is to buy a station, cut operating costs to the bone by firing staff and introducing cookie cutter or syndicated formats that are cheap to run (almost invariably ESPN Sports or a lame satellite talk format if the station is an AM station), then sell the station if the stick value goes up in a few years.

WSBG was to be sold to Access.1, but the sale fell through.
