WSBG Dies Thursday May 3

OK! Got "The Bone" on today and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. Disturbed, Zombie, Korn, Sublime, Rage, thats more like it!!! I think you're onto something. This is precisely the kind of rock you don't find on 'ZZO, save for 2 o'clock in the morning. Way to go "Bone", now get rid of the guys in the morning and bring in some Jocks and a morning team and I'm there full time.

When was this? Listened for the first 5-7 days after the flip, and got nothing but bad classic rock... Foriegner, Allmans, Bowie... dreadful.

Over the last 3 days they started switching from a 'ZZO format to a more 97.9X format. They still play some classics but certainly not as many as 'ZZO does. I hope as they go forward they continue to play more new rock/metal. I just get SOOOOOO tired of hearing the same old 5 songs from the same 10 bands day in and day out. I mean between Zep, VH, Aerosmith, Rush, The Who, & Floyd, there has to be 2000 songs but they play the same 10 EVERY day. I hope the bone gets away from that a little bit. Also, I'm kinda diggin' the no jock format.

If I have the voice pegged, it sounds as if "The Mighty, Mighty Rob Banks" may be coming to "The Bone". He is doing a lot of advertisements for Bone promotions.

ok, its been over a year since all of this. heres the results: ZZO still sucks, not as bad but still enough. The Bone kicks ass. they are playing Tool, Korn, System Of A Down, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, and even Slipknot. and you cant beat 3 hours of commercial free rock either, while zzo is stopping their music 10 times to play commercials. and FBHW are GREAT! i dont know why some dont like them. some really do, some really dont.

now i do have one question, it regards the bones signal. i know they come in good in bethlehem, allentown, and north bucks county. but whie going north on 512, do they cut out completly at all? because i was taking a back way home today, and i lost it about 7 miles after the Valeco Gas Station (or something like that) (i think thats bath). it was about 3 miles past the "borough of Jamesville" sign while i was heading west. and it was out completly. it came from clear as day, to completly dead. which is why im wondering, does if fade out that bad on 512 north of bath? if anything it should get even stronger, but today made me curious about the coverage. im sure the signals perfect on 512 until at least past the stroudsburg area. shouldnt that have been crystal clear where i lost it today?

i know the bone comes in real good on 22 until about 2 miles after it merges with 78 (west), and it goes about 20-25 miles on the Northeast Extension (south). so is it a directional station that gets full market coverage in some directions, but not others?

When I started working at WSBG back in the Fall of '96, driving up from Philly, taking Route 33... I would start losing the signal as I went up the mountain, which would completely freak me out - "I'm less than 10 miles from the station, why can't I get the signal??" (I was coming from board-opping at Y100 where, back then, you couldn't get "Philadelphia's New Rock" IN Philadelphia.) - Then, the signal would return by the time I got to around Saylorsburg.

It's my understanding that, where route 512 intersects with route 33, your radio antenna's "view" of the WSBG/WWYY tower is being blocked by the mountain face. The transmitters are at around 1400 feet above sea level, but the mountain blocking your view of those transmitters is just over 1600 feet high.
