> Take this with a grain of salt. Dana,Meg,Stu&Co won't be back. You won't be seeing the TV38 truck parked behind Fenway. The Movie Loft was condemned years ago. Willie Whistle is definitely not still with us. It's 2006, and sadly the current buisness landscape of TV will not be bringing WSBK back as if it never left, IMHO. A Superstation would be nice, but does anybody see it happening?

Not entirely, I don't. But you have to assume that CBS Corp. has something in the works for the station. Tribune gets The CW in (1) NY, (2) LA, (3) Chicago, (5) Boston; CBS gets it in (4) Philadelphia and (6) San Francisco. Why wouldn't they put it on CBS' Boston station?

They must have some plans to make the station more profitable as a superstation indy than as the area's network affiliate.

>I am assuming you still think CW will go on WSBK.It's not.According to thier Web Site WLVI and WLWC will be the affiliates.According to WSBK thier syndicated Court shows,Talk shows and whatever will remain the same.So WSBK going all news or sports or even spanish are out of the question.Although WSBK seems to want to lean towards the old TV-38 when UPN finally goes belly-up in September I don't think WSBK will have any locally produced shows, ATM,Willie's and Bozo's etc. The only thing I do see is a WBZ presence with a 10'oclock news and maybe a morning news deal and Bob Lobels Sports Wrap-up.
Other than that no Personalities exclusive to WSBK or even WLWC-28.

It would nt surprise me if WBZ does have 10'oclock newscast on Channel 28.Don't forget thier 10'oclock hour is now free.
In one article I read WB and UPN will officially sign off so they won't owe anyone anything.I guess if they wanted to go in the direction of just renaming the network like PAX becoming I network then they would still have to honer contracts and such. This way here it's just a going out of business deal or in this case off the air.
Edited by kenwood on 02/04/06 11:13 PM.

As has been pointed out, the purpose for the alignment of stations that have the CW was intended to take advantage of Tribune stations that have big profiles (WGN, KTLA, etc), while leaving Fox owned affiliates out in the cold. Under the new algnment, no Fox owned stations will have network affiliations. Meanwhile, I suspect that WLVI had higher viewership than WSBK, since it was 38's newscast that was pulled.

As for the press release, it suggests that they are going back to their old logo, which, in my opinion, is a very great day for Boston!

>I did not realize WBZ pulled the 10'oclock news from WSBK.WSBK was the last of the BOSTON stations to be pulled in Providence. I do think Providence can handle another 10'oclock newscast and I hope WBZ (who operates WLWC) will give it a shot. Providence has an audience for a BOSTON newscast and some compitition for WPRI's 10'oclock news.WBZ doing doing a mix of Boston and Providence news on WLWC at 10 o'clock could work.
COX CABLE I believe airs WLVI's 10 o'clock newscast on channel 3.Why they (COX) don't incorporate that into the RI NEWS Channel is beyond me.By 10 o'clock the 6 pm newscast is stale.
There was an outcry for BOSTON news when COX started pulling Boston stations of thier line-up that COX as a public service has been airing WLVI news for about 10 years now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I have Directv.

I'd take a guess that after UPN 28 drops the mostly-UPN-with-WB-on-tape-delay affiliate to become CW, Viacom will have even less an interest in the station. Seeing that UPN was their network, CW will give the corporate ownership less control over what the station ultimately airs.

With what was UPN 28, it had appeared that Viacom moreso wanted to assure clearance for the network in Providence than provide a local station that just happened to clear 2 hours of network programming on weeknights. The station is run on such a shoestring as it is that I can't really see them adding a newscast. Though as WLWC is run entirely out of Soldiers Field Rd. last time I checked, it would seem that the WBZ main studio would be clear to run a newscast for Providence.

I for one, hope that UPN38 airs more classic programming again, at least a few classic sitcoms, and more Three Stooges. At least with 38 becoming independent, there's a better chance they won't take the Stooges off any time soon.

I'd like it if they re-instated a 10PM newscast, and add some talk shows instead of all court shows. Also, good sitcom choices would include Empty Nest, Maude, etc. which all once aired on 38. What would ice the cake is if they mainly schedule these programs in prime-time where UPN currently sits.
