WSB's Kirk Mellish weather substitute

Hmm.... But there's still the burning question: What is the conversion factor for Mellish Meter to WIZ?
The Melhuish Meter tends to favor cooler days--anything above 80 is penalized. Not sure about the WIZometer's bias.

But, like Spinal Tap's amps, it does go up to 11. That means a perfect 10 on the Melhuish Meter isn't as good as an 11 on the WIZometer, because the WIZometer is one better.

Side note: Somebody needs to tell the folks at Cox that "10" is binary for "2", so they can keep up with the folks at Gannett.

David, thanks for posting. But, as I originally asked, does Kirk return the favor?

Kirk Mellish's real strength is his understanding of meteorology. Kirk and Ken Cook are the only two on- air personalities I trust in a weather event or emergency. (Ken Cook worked for the National Weather Service as a severe weather specialist before being hired by WAGA.) .
But that means nothing in the world of television. Glenn Burns has the best on-air delivery but is incapable of providing accurate, "calm" information in a weather emergency. He doesn't seem to really "understand the math"......but he is very good at looking "weather worried" on camera and generating viewer interest. And, after all, that's really what he and all other media weather folks are paid to do.
I imagine Mellish would not do very well on camera because he is a "mad scientist".....not a performer. He should be the guy who tells Glenn, Karen, Brad, et. al. what to say ....WSB TV would be a much more reliable source of information during weather emergencies if they did.
David Chandley, who posted on this thread, does a very competent job IMHO and has a respectable on-air delivery. I would rather hear him sub for Mellish than the others.......

If you read Kirk's blog on wsbradio.com, you quickly understand both Kirk's depth of knowledge and how complex weather and forecasting really is, and some days it's merely "roll the dice and move your mice" because of a bunch of what-ifs with similar probabilities. It's not a fast read, nor would it do it justice to have it be.

The PDs at AM 750 and NOW 95.5 FM NewsTalk WSB probably cringe anytime they ask Kirk to give a detailed forecast during iffy weather...his wealth of information and detailed delivery is better suited to the written word than radio, and radio over television.
