WSHP ID??

While pasasing through this morning, I heard the ID as..."WSHP-FM, Lafayette"

Is there a WSHP-AM?
What happened to the bustling city of Attica??

Inquiring minds wanna know ;)

Must have been just a fluke or something.

Everytime I've listened to The Rocket they identify as...

"WSHP Attica-Lafayette...Lafayette's Classic Rock...95-7 The Rocket."

They also play their legal ID multiple times an hour it seems. On Thursday afternoon, there was a time when it was played at 15 before the hour. Maybe the not-so-legal ID is just thrown in the mix to solidify that they are in fact a Lafayette station (not like anyone already doesn't know they really are).

Would love to hear either 'SHP or 'KHY flip to Modern Rock. The format performed extremely well before, especially with the college crowd.

The modern rock version of The Rocket was a damn fine station. Steve Clark did a phenominal job with it as he continues to do to this day with classic rock. Unfortunately, KHY is about as close as we're going to get in Lafayette these days to modern rock. The problem with KHY from a casual listener standpoint is that they don't really know what to focus on. One day, you'll hear lots of new rock and the more aggressive classic rock on their playlist. The next day, it seems almost all classic rock with new rock sprinkled in here and there. I just wish they'd do what so many successful AORs have done across the country and flip to full-blown active rock. A station that plays new rock mixed with alternative hits from the 90s along with the biggest rock hits from the 80s would probably kick ass in Lafayette. Granted, it's not the same as alternative, but it'll satisfy me as it should the advertisers. It may get their ratings up a bit as well.

As far as The Rocket goes, I heard Art blew up modern rock as a result of WAZY's flip to CHR. The interesting part of the whole deal, if this was the case, is WAZY as a hot AC played more crossover alternative songs than WAZY has ever done as a CHR. Maybe AMP just didn't want to have too many stations outside the 25-54 money demo. Who knows, but I still say an alternative/classic rock combo over there would totally wipe KHY off the map.

Uh, I hate to break this to ya, but they by no means "performed extremely well." If that were the case and the format were viable ratings and advertising-wise in the Lafayette market, Artistic certainly wouldn't have switched formats...

Actually from a ratings standpoint, alternative rock performed very well on 95.7, but the classic rock version is definitely selling more advertising than modern rock ever did. I still remember hearing songs to fill in time between Bob & Tom segments.

What baffles me about the alternative rock version of The Rocket as far as sales go is that the format was just as strong back then as CHR is today, but you heard very little advertising on the station. I think with Z's current success with CHR, they could have sold The Rocket a little better than what they did back in the 90s, but that's just my thoughts on the issue. Whether the same would still be the case today, given alternative's steady decline in popularity over recent years, is another story.
