WSJC 810 back on the air

Someone needs to purchase this station ...downgrade it to about 5000 watts daytime and 500 at night. Then really "Hometown" the programming: - Local news, local sporting events , on -air Swap Shop , cover Crazy Day in Magee each year, Okatoma Festival in Collins, Atwood Music Festival in Monticello..etc . I don't have the resources it would take but I would like to see it become News Radio 81 WSJC with slant on coverage of local events. There has to be someone out there that could make this work...just hate to see this station go dark and by the wayside like so many others!!

Its been sproradic the last several weeks. It was on the air right after christmas, but is off this weekend. They used to broadcast live at the Smith Co. Watermelon festival, and would also carry live play by play of the tobbaco spitting contest in Raleigh. You just don't hear stuff like that anymore.

I tried to listen to 810 WSJC this morning. I could pick up the 810 from Alabama, so I guess WSJC is still having problems. Are there problems with equipment or finances or both?

Probably financial. I understand that the owners have it on the market but apparently haven't been able to sell it.

I think they turned it on around the holidays long enough to refile for the STA. I haven't heard it on since.

I had to make a trip down 49 on Saturday, so I stopped in Magee and drove by the studio. Locked gate at the driveway, so apparently no one was home. It wasn't a total loss though... I stopped by Zips Cafe and got a burger while I was in town. Those of you who have eaten at Zips will know what I'm talking about!

The STA application in April states they have had a "TRANSMITTER CONTROL SYSTEM HAS TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES AND SYSTEM FAILURE". I wonder if that is still the problem. Seems either current owners want too much or the station is not viable considering repair and operational costs for any prospective buyer.
