WSJO (SoJO 104.9)... How are they doing?

Tom McNally said:
The original owner, Jim Rodio, sat down with maps, and antenna patterns
"cut outs" like people use to arrange furniture, and figured out the best
orientation for the ERI 5 bay antenna, which is on an ERI Lambda section,
which allows you to get the best possible pattern.

We put it up and it performed very well. When Mega came along, they
thought they could do better. They spent thousands of dollars messing
with it ... and in the end ... put it right back where it was.

Anything else you hear is "urban legend" the tower is straight as an arrow.

Calm down Tom... it's no big deal... you're working up a sweat here... it may very well be urban legend... again, I can't say that I've had studies done on the stick... I just heard from a source that I thought was reliable and it was seconded by another reliable source... no biggie...

Well it actually IS a big deal ... any accusation of an illegal or dangerous situation
on a public forum, read by the FCC, station owners and managers, etc. needs to be addressed.

Tom... get over yourself... please... we all acknowledge that you are the premier engineer and I bow before you and your greatness... you are the very best of the best, and all knowing and the man of the year when it comes to engineering... Everyone who reads this, please acknowledge that Tom is just the end all of engineering and FCC if you are reading I was wrong.. the tower is straight and I was a fool to think that Tom was incorrect or to even question anything in the engineering field that Tom had anything to do with... and by Tom's accounts that would be every radio station within a 1000 mile radius of Atlantic City... so again, I'm so sorry and it will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever happen again... please accept my humble appology...

Would the Leaning Tower of Egg Harbor City put a noticeably stronger signal in Philly than a perfectly straight tower?

And yes, FM stations closer to the water have greater tropo enhancement than stations inland.

No need for an apology ...

You guys don't seem to realize this about radio boards ...

1) they are read by the FCC guys, owners, managers, PD's, jocks
2) memos are issued based on posted items
3) corrective actions are taken based on posts
4) people are never hired because of things they post
5) people are hired based on the knowledge they show in posts
6) people are reprimanded because they talk too much in posts
7) the FCC makes visits based on what they read on boards

and we all learn some history, some skill, make new friends
and get in touch with old ones, find out who arrived and departed.

See... now that is a nicely thought out post and gets the point across that you believe it's a big deal to post information that you know to be false... Obviously if I knew it were false I would not have posted it, but I believed it was accurate... and while I do agree that management and PDs and the sort read these boards I don't think the FCC makes any judgements or wastes too much time with things posted by one person on this board... although I suppose if everyone agreed on a post they might look closer....

104.9 can be heard all the way up in the schuylkill county areas during a good tropo. but what makes g rock and the hawk have such good signals, especially g, providing its only a class a.

Height ... they are some of the highest stations in South Jersey.

Okay , so if I put my DX rig on another mass makein it 40 foot mass instead of 20 would that do any good?
I'm assumeing not because though it may help poorer stations come in (such as WBHX, WKRZ, WMGS), it won't do much for the rest of the dial. Oh wait, I may be able to pull in Bob 94.9 (Forget the calls), Harisburg, PA.
These stations as it is do not come in very well.

106.5, like 104.9, benefits from a clean frequency. The nearest 106.5 is Baltimore and you don't have anything at a substantial power level (heading west) until 106.7/Hershey. WBBO, with 1.45kw at 715 feet above sea level across flat terrain, has a beautiful signal.

More importantly, it's 10Kw at over 500'...a big deal down here. Only WXKW is higher. Class A's are limited to 330' (100 meters) in height before power reduction.

Also, add WZXL to that list of B-1's.

Not to nitpick, but Class A's are limited to 328 feet, not 330 (with 6KW)

RGB...I stated the 100 meters right, but you correctly write 328'. I should not have rounded the numbers.

There's too much I've forgotten over the years, and am not in practice. I should no longer write from memory! There was a line from that T. Boone Pickens fellow I saw the other day. Paraphrased: "The higher a monkey clibs, the more people can see his ass".

So, how's the view!

Oh, and you can almost always tell an old Class A from a new Class A.

Most of the old ones were 3KW at 299 feet.. and most upgraded to 6KW/328 feet.. but some didnt, and those that remain at 3KW/299 ft are pretty old stations I think.

Wow. I gotta party with you guys. Fascinating stuff. Easy with the slide ruler there big fella...pass the protractor dude...don't be a bogart...yehaw.

Before G-106.5 signed on, you could hear Mix 106.5 from Baltimore south of 195 every day.
