WSJT and more

You mean, surveys aren't always accurate and can't be trusted? I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you! Of course, it seems like every survey I've ever seen says people want "more music and less talk" and MJ and Bubba play how many records in the morning?

Look on the bright side, we've got a new midday battle heating up. John Tesh vs. Dave Koz!!

Seriously, this is so sad... We're starting to see some really good talent being cut loose.

They should have kept Alicia and moved her to mornings. She had such a natural friendly sound and didn't come across as being a big ego either.

I have heard that despite being the AM personality, Kathy Curtis made signficantly less than both Al Santana and Alicia Kaye. That makes here the cheapest to keep. That's all CBS was interested in, having one name personality at as low a price as possible to handle endorsements, appearances and anything else requiring a local, living, breathing person.

Smooth Jazz is rapidly nearing extinction as a format as the PPM approaches. I'm not sure why, maybe that multiple listeners in an office environment won't be counted the way they currently are with diaries? If someone knows more on that subject please share....

Cume is King with PPM - and Smooth Jazz has never had healthy Cume numbers.

Well, all I can say is, the station is really boring now. We were listening in the car yesterday, my wife even figured out that "those announcers aren't really here" and "probably in California" and "all of that is pre-recorded." I knew what they were doing, but she figured it out and she knows nothing about broadcasting. Time to take that station off my pre-sets. Hmmm what could I replace it with?

When I discovered WSJT was being programmed by Ross Block I wrote him a note since I had remembered him from WNGS 92.1 Wast Palm Beach. He was coming as I was going. That was a lot of years ago and somehow I knew is speciality was Smooth Jazz. I told him it was one format that I had always wanted to work because I love the music. He was nice enough to write back, and it was a nice exchange. I was impressed he was still in the biz since many of my contemporaries have dropped out of sight....Now this happens.

Ross, if you see this, best of luck on whatever you do next.
