WTDY Stunting... but don't get your hopes up

Just looking at what they've played since 9am, this doesn't look like too much of a change, musically. Alanis and Tupac probably wouldn't have been there (and maybe Rolling in the Deep as well). But otherwise, it's all stuff I would expect to hear if I tuned to 96.5.

Except this time it fits in their cluster. Maybe Hot AC will work in this market better than before this time around.
Flanker to B101?
Also better billing perhaps. They are sure hoping so, Rather than being an also ran like their CHR before.
Somehow bennit is still here...

As the morning is progressing, their music is changing song by song. Currently playing All I Have To Give by Backstreet Boys and just a few songs earlier was Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer. I guess they’ll be playing with the mix more as we progress through the week.

Backstreet boys "All I have to give"
DO not see that on the CHR format of old. they didn't go tback that far.
Also a live DJ at 11:30 in the morning that isn't VT? that's new.

Just as I wrote this, they’re replaying the first song they used to launch this station, I’m good by David Guetta / Bebe Rexha…..

If the jock is V Hale as the website says, then she's tracked from Alice in San Francisco, per RadioInsight.

When B 101 came off of Christmas being noticeably older, I thought something might be up eventually with this frequency.

Who is this station supposed to be a flanker against to help B 101? That's the real question because there could be some cannibalizing with B's younger listeners. Time will tell.

3 hours between plays for what the station may be classifying as a current is typical for Hot AC, especially with a song that’s been very popular and successful on the format.

This was a subtle format flip really. It wasn’t a tweak/segue like WBBM-FM. They’re using the same logo (half of it), but this isn’t a CHR adding more gold, it’s a quiet flip to hot AC. Seems like Audacy is starting to address some of their underperforming CHR’s. 96.5 may not do that great in the ratings considering the format’s history in Philadelphia, but it’ll fit much better in to the cluster strategy than TDY did.

BTW - regarding the comments about country prior to this - remember, Entercom/Audacy owned WXTU. They opted to sell it back to Beasley.

Country music goes through hot and cold periods. This is definitely one of the hottest in a while. I doubt Audacy would even be considering selling WXTU if it owned the station today.

Looking at Mediabase, they've cut spins on heavies in half, from 80+ spins a week to 40+ spins. It will be interesting to see how many currents they keep and how large the playlist gets. As a CHR, the playlist was around 150. I expect that to double.

Air talent will mostly stay the same:

In terms of song categories, this reminds me quite a bit of how 101.1 sounded shortly before Jerry Lee sold the station.

They might have been an AC reporter at the time, but More FM in its final couple years especially could've easily gotten away with a Hot AC label.

The main reason Hot AC has not exhibited much staying power in the past is because those stations were chasing the same listeners and ad dollars as 101.1. As a cluster complement to 101.1, I think the potential is higher for longer term success.

100% percent.
