WTOB Beach & Oldies back April 1st.???????

Mike Mitchell was working at WTOB in 1969. He came there from WFLB, Fayetteville, and he left there for WKIX in Raleigh. He was only in Winston-Salem for about a year.

He's older than I thought. I brought him on at G-105 in the mid 80's and over to 100.7. He was an attorney for the sheriff's office.

Am I the only one who thinks 80,000 oldies is a bit much? I've always thought the average "oldies" station music library isn't deep enough and should be expanded, this is to the other extreme. To put it in perspective, it would take the top 1,000 songs/recordings from every year 1932 - 2012 to equal 80,000 oldies. Wonder what the response from the local advertising community has been" I'm sure advertisers are lined up to buy. I do hope they are successful. but I have a lot of doubts about this.

Anybody consider April 1st is "April Fools Day"? Just sayin . . .

I would make an offer for W244CD and move it to the tower across from BB&T Ballpark or the top of Winston Tower. Change the frequency to 96.5 and up the power to .25 kW. WTOB on AM and FM.

Not to stir it up (here's Johnny Nash!) or anything... but I think KIX did run AM Only for a brief period of time Staple but it would have been before you got there. Between Bernie and Metroplex they ran just about every format Transtar came up with at one time or another, on one station or the other. ...AND before WTOB the "Weekend Superjock" Mike "Music" Mitchell worked at the old "Radio One" in Hickory using his given name. I know this from him, and have the jingle package with his jock shout.

I can buy that, Mr Moose. It was MOYL when I was there. I remember the logo being on my biz cards. Of course, that was pretty much Ted and Sharon's station. I was too tied up trying to keep the big man in NYC. Then again, I did stick the Busch races and Indy on KIX which made some money. We had a decent number of sponsors for Liddy when I put him on but unfortunately, he found it necessary to call Hillary Clinton a b1tch the first day we aired him so it was back to Harry Belefonte in no time.

I stand corrected about the number of Oldies in the WTOB-AM 1380 Library!! According to their facebook page, it is going to be 80,000 Oldies WOW!!! I am listening to their live feed this morning (they won`t be on the air until April 1st, but they are streaming LIVE now)!! A D.J. named Otis is on live now and sounds great!!! He is talking about having a live "Oldies Cafe" on WTOB!!! He is also playing some FANTSTIC Oldies!!! Winston-Salem needs this new radio station SO bad!!! They will do VERY well!!

" I am listening to their live feed this morning..."

Whereat on the ol' intarweb might one find this?

How about a report on the quality of content and technical aspects of the format. Does the "new" WTOB sound better, worse or somewhere in between of what we remember in the good ole days? Unfortunately some of us are out of signal range. Should CMG be attempting to unload WSJS before the unwashed masses are dazzled and discover that WTOB has a playlist of 80,000 recordings?

I can pick them up in Reidsville, just barely, and it is way too old for me and I'm 56. All I've heard so far would be appealing to a 70+ audience. Of course, they need an entertainment outlet too. I am disappointed at the lack of production value. This is not the WTOB of the early 70's that I remember.

I just clicked on the stream and it was unlistenable! Could hear Taste of Honey in the background but there was some unreal surface noise or something. Real poor!

Just checked online and the same here. Some high pitched noise and static. Pretty messy. Sounded like maybe an Al Jolson - Cotton Club song in the background.

Listened to 1380 for about 20 minutes Wednesday afternoon. Sounded pretty bad. Audio cut out in the middle of one commercial for about 25 seconds. Cut out again a few minutes later in the middle of a song. Set I heard had some pretty obscure songs in it. Old PAMS jingles sounded good, but the played the most up tempo jingle in the library into a slow OJs song. I was all ready for the Beatles. What a letdown
