WTOB Beach & Oldies back April 1st.???????

WTOB's audio lately sounds as if the station is broadcasting from underwater. The audio quality was bad ... now its near horrible. Its not the use of ISDNs although the remote programming likely adds to the problems. Of course the programming and announcers are still a mess, too. I still credit WTOB for being local but I am amazed they are still on the air. It must be that a few people with deep pockets are keeping the place afloat. Of course, their commercials aren't being heard by anyone but they may not care.

I tried to receive it also and when I finally did, I concur with you... Terrible!! And I am only 20 miles from the transmitter!

The music selection is much better. It is Classic Hits with a decent size library. I've been listening for the past several days (off and on). The technical quality of the audio seems to have improved slightly. From a programming standpoint, there are far, far fewer songs pre-1970. Hopefully, the old jingles will be killed. (They just do not work before Ted Nugent.) The station is promoting noon on June 1st as an official kick-off. I think we all knew the old format wouldn't work for a variety of reasons. The station may work as a non-profit. I know a few oldies stations in the NorthEast have taken this approached and it has worked financially. Music on AM may not be listened to by anyone (other than me) younger than about 85 but those 85 year olds will send in donations especially if they back off on Culture Club (heard twice within 20 minutes this afternoon). Classic Hits 1380 needs to be hyper local, too, of course.

Every time I flip over there, they are playing something absolutely horrendous and as for flow, there is none. Just heard a segue from some obsure Bo Diddley into Misty Blew...and yes it did!

I like WBRF so much that even when I was in the area, only remembered to tun in once and I didn't like what I heard. I was hoping for oldies, like WKIX had with old WKIX jingles. Their version of the format was not so different from standards. This, however, is not what I like.

We've been working on music rotation. We have been as impatient as some of you but none of us do this full-time. The reality is that the work of this station is being done in the spare time of many volunteers. We completed a major revamp of the music today which of course may need fine tuning. Hopefully, the music will be more agreeable to the critics here. Having said that, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

WTOB is relaunching June 1 at noon. We have just about filled our schedule with seasoned, volunteer announcers. Still open is midnight-4am plus a couple of weekend shifts. If you know of an experienced announcer that still has passion for the biz and wants to keep his/her foot in the door, please give her/him the email address below. Assuming we find the right people, all of our shifts will be live, not voice-tracked. We've come a long way in the short time since taking the reigns of this legendary station; if you or someone you know has a positive attitude, loves Classic Hits, and would like to help revive this giant by volunteering time as a DJ, please send cover letter, resume, and a brief, scoped aircheck. Again, this is an all-volunteer effort for a non-profit station. This will not be mere liner reading; it's going to be fun radio, the way it should be done. [email removed at request of the poster as they are no longer affiliated with the station]

In regards to the help wanted post above, I no longer volunteer for the station so please do not use the yahoo email address. Contact Station Manager Dan Curtis. Thanks. (I've asked for the post to be deleted.)
