WTQR TV

Actually, there are some local agencies that have gotten smart. They realize they can buy around the big guys. It's just the ones with agencies out of the area that are inaccessible to the smaller stations. I've never really understood why local businesses would seek an agency in another state. How can they possibly know what's really going on here? I once heard the quote "I've never seen a CPP enter a store and buy anything!" Oh how true!

I LOVE IT.. I LOVE IT... I LOVE IT.... Good to see Clear Channel spending some $$$$$ On TV for TQR and Outdoor for 105.7 CHARGE the hell out of them!!!!!

The Z Man
;D

CC earnings up only 7% in 3rd quarter! They like double digits. Look for lots of fourth quarter pressure on the bottom line! We've already seen some of it!

A few things about the TQR commercial really bother me and every time I see it I cringed and think "What marketing genius came up with this"

1. "Aunt Eloise" suductively licking her lips ... that creeps me out ... that beautiful child is all of 8 or 9 and she's being prompted to be sexy ... really bothers me.

2. "It's 5:00 somewhere" .... really doesn't sit well with me associating a child with drinking, even if it is a juice box ... we all know what it symbolizes.

3. What Marketing genius thought it would be a good idea to start a commerical with the song "I Ain't As good As I Once Was" .... when the purpose of the campaign is to keep listeners from going to a new competitor. Why even put that thought in anyone's head.

Just my thoughts.

What reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly bothers me about the cost cutting moves was in allaccess yesterday. Talk about a golden parachute....read on:

Chairman LOWRY MAYS owns 29 million shares valued at over $1 billion at FRIDAY's closing price, plus options for 3 million more shares. CEO MARK MAYS has about 1.6 million shares ($56 million) plus options for another half-million shares, while his brother RANDALL, the CFO, owns 1.2 million shares ($42 million) and options for another half-million shares. Each would get seven times their base salary plus seven times their best annual performance bonus of the past three years in severance, plus cash to pay for tax costs, and stock options

SEVEN times the salary and highest bonus?????

Lowery and the boys worked for it - particularly Lowery. Shame the Mays model disappeared with the merger with Jacor. Randy Michaels really started the top heavy, downhill slide, for CC. I don't necessarily mean in the business sense (although those of us who owned stock to a beating, thanks to Randy.)

It was the Michaels attitude of win at all cost, embrace the technology, centralize control, and cut the costs in the field. It has been carried on by the subsequent and present management teams. Fewer GMs, fewer PDs, fewer DJs, even fewer sales people!

Two ways to build the bottom line - increase the revenue and cut the costs! In days of old, cost cutting never resulted in solid, long term profits. I am not sure about today's atmosphere!
