WTZN: Change Coming Friday

I heard this morning on 93.7 The Zone after O&A that WTZN is no longer "The Zone" and that on Friday at 5:00pm a 'surprise' or "early Christmas gift" will be unveiled. It was just a real brief announcement right before Dennis Miller. Is this just a gimic or are we going to see a change on Friday?

It wouldn't surprise me, but their website is still up and running...

The internet stream is playing Christmas music. They will be the first to make the Christmas jump.
Is John S. still on this morning?

Yeah the station via FM Tower is playing Christmas music as well. And no, John wasn't on. Just music. It is going by 93.7 Fm right now. It's too early for Christmas music, unless its the only idea Keith Clark has left for that frequency because everything else has failed.

The website hasn't changed yet either and they are telling people to go to some other website to 'vote' on what they will think will be the next format, however, I can't remember the website.

The site is: www.pitts-burgh.com. The sweeper asks "What's missing in Pittsburgh?" They're bringing B94 back...

If that's the case then if they manage it better this time and are competitive and do a big marketing campaign, they have the potential for doing well, at least cut into Kiss's numbers. Heck, they did better before they changed it to K-Rock and the Zone.

The link for the site doesn't work. Are you sure its right?

On the new WTZN website, there seem to be just as many people who don't want B94 than the ones that do.

In related news, CBS is flipping the Free FM in Detroit today to sports.

the old b-94 jocks are washed up. didn't they fire kerri griffith on star because she's a pain in keith's posterior? same with john klein? fired a while back? what makes anyone think these two will be back on a keith clark production?

a really good, fresh, CHR with good jocks is need to go up against KISS. Make that LIVE jocks as KISS has voicetracked dummies on all day. Give away prizes all day.

Dave Cook, Bubba, and The Ron Man are all still in the building. Who knows what'll happen. O&A won't be on a CHR. And what will happen with WZPT? They're playing quite a bit more of new hits and music from this decade.

Very interesting FCR. I was thinking the same thing when Dave Cook and Ron Man have been filling in on star. This could have been setup as they are preparing to bring B 94 back. From reading the website that insertname posted that something is missing, as much as people might not want this, I think B 94 really is coming back. If it does, I wouldn't be surprised if they reunite Dave and Bubba for the morning show. The big question is will Shelly Duffy leave KDKA to come back to the B? Maybe 100.7 could flip to a rock station and put O & A on there?. If they don't, I don't know if there is another CBS radio station in Pittsburgh that O & A would fit?

As someone else mentioned, Detroit's Free-FM with O&A will be gone... Not a good day for Opie & Anthony if they get replaced by Mike & Mike over there...

B94 received its most successful run in the 1980s. As music changed towards the end of the 90's, the ratings began to dip. It couldn't do well as a mainstream CHR anymore.

Fortunately, Top 40 has improved a great deal since then. The hip-hop and grunge trends have died down and more of what defines a true CHR station is back on the charts.

I say B94 repackaged as an Adult CHR can not just return, but it can succeed as well. I would not bring back the jock lineup. Find some strong local talent that's able to get past egos and work as an ensemble group.

If you want to go the satellite route (not recommended), go with Kidd Kraddick.

I agree. However, part of what made the B so successful was a local morning show. Putting anything but a local morning show would not fare well.

If everyone on there who's upset that the Man Station is going away had actually listened to it on a regular basis, it might still be on.

You couldn't be more on the mark. As I recall, we've had this same conversation when they flipped KRock.

I just have to wonder though, after 4 format flips in under 4 years, how much longer will CBS tolerate Keith Clark?

The Zone could've worked if those in charge knew what they were doing, and if the Zone knew what it was. Talk? Sports? Sports talk? Bad talk? But there was no hope for McIntyre's show. Those who enjoyed it need to get their heads checked.

Ditto. I don't think that it had that strong a listener base outside of Dennis Miller, because that's all I had heard about.

Build around Steigy and Paulsen. Go after Mark Madden since his contract is up soon. CBS has WFAN and WIP.... why not an all local sports
station in Pittsburgh?
