WTZN: Change Coming Friday

That Pitt-urgh thing is pretty cheesy to me. They didn't even try to keep it a secret.

It's working for me too. Maybe it's a firewall issue.

This is HUGE! ;D I really hope they are bringing B94 back? Where is Radio Realist?? He's been saying since Day One that 5 (maybe 6) people in this city would want B-94 back.

This site was working for me about five minutes ago, but it's not working now!

Got it! Thanks.

If B94 is coming back as a mainstream CHR and plans on going head-to-head with 96.1 Kiss, then I think they need a FRESH crop of local talent! I'm sorry, but I don't think the old jocks are going to make it against the monster known as Kiss.

the old b-94 jocks are washed up. didn't they fire kerri griffith on star because she's a pain in keith's posterior? same with john klein? fired a while back? what makes anyone think these two will be back on a keith clark production?

a really good, fresh, CHR with good jocks is need to go up against KISS. Make that LIVE jocks as KISS has voicetracked dummies on all day. Give away prizes all day.
Did you say good and FRESH? I know nothing, but may be that's what they'll do. I realize they already have Star, but nothing can do as badly as 93.7 has post Stern.

A few thoughts:

*I don't know if the Man Station was Keith Clark's idea or corporate's. Either way, it was a huge failure and they have to decide whether the idea or the execution was at fault.

*This is two dismal flops for Paulsen outside the DVE cocoon.

*There might be a place for a more contemporary talk format, sort of like what Steve Dahl and company have done in Chicago. But it can't be the "man" station and further narrow an already niche audience.

*Tough times for McIntire, who split from his wife recently, and for Steigerwald, who is done at KD-TV as of tomorrow. I'm sure he's already placed calls to the PDs at 970 and 1250.

*Someone mentioned Madden. He just re-upped at 1250, so he's not available.

If you go back to the sweepers teasing the Zone, they started before CBS Radio's new CEO took over. I'm guessing whoever gave Keith the thumbs up said "Call it something other than Free FM. That doesn't seem to be working." Then, Dan Mason came back as CEO and K-Rock flipped exactly one week later. If Mason had started back two weeks earlier, I'd venture to say The Zone would've never happened.

Whatever comes back Friday at 5 will be better than "The Man Station." Worst idea ever.

So the folks that let a once major CHR get killed by a cookie cutter carbon copy KISS machine are exhuming the body. Those who thought the name B94 confused listeners and was too representative of the 80s have decided something's missing in Pitts urgh. After putting on a station that never beat WORD, management has decided it's time to go back to the future and party like it's 1999 (or 2000).

"Based on that track record, I can't wait!" he sarcastically said.

What are they going to do with Paulsen's contract if they go back to CHR?

I bet it's classic rock, with O&A yet again in the morning and Paulsen playing music in PM drive.

per PBRTV, Paulsen, Mac, Gab, and Steigy were all fired today.

Something's Missing?

Hmmm... Wonder what it could B?

Wonder what it means for Star?

To me, the problem with The Man Station was that it was recycling failures and trying to make them new.

Okay, I can hardly call the OVERALL careers of John Steigerwald and Scott Paulsen failures. However, WBGG tried in the "Man Station" format of sports talk radio to have these on and both didn't make it despite a lot of promotion.

Steigy just sounded too old and Paulsen sounded too weird. I like them both- I really do- but why would you think the same thing would work five years later?

Same thing with McIntire. The man has a bad schtick- Smart @ss Central. It didn't work on Night Calls- it didn't work at KDKA (ratings have gone up since he left 1020)- so . . . we think it will work at The Zone?

The only legacy McIntire will have is that he destroyed the political career of Bill Peduto.

The definition of insanity is to do the same thing and expect different results. That was exactly what "The Zone" did.

But to tell you the truth, with all the recycling of talent that goes on in Pittsburgh (we actually have a talk station- WPTT- that is 1995 WTAE recycled without the sports) are any of us surprised?

And we wonder why the youth of Pittsburgh leaves . . .

Does CBS Radio have to eat their salaries? If so, then ouch!

Corporate probably foots the bill. They had to do the same thing when WYSP in Philly flipped a few weeks ago.
