Here's a question and a thought. Do stations have to air the My Network TV programming in a specified time slot? If not, couldn't WUFX air the programming in the afternoons to counterprogram the other stations' talk shows? Soaps have been a proven programming genre, and that's what this network will basically be showing. That way, WUFX can keep its Fox programming in prime time.
If they do have to drop Fox, I could see a fight to get it. WDBD would be one choice, and definitely a better one than 34, but I wonder if one of the big three stations might jump on it. Major affiliation changes have happened in many markets, so don't count any station out. But I'm not sure when the network contracts are coming up for renewal...

A lot of local stations that had affiliations with other networks did this when the WB and UPN first came out. I remember when UPN first came on, WAPT ran a number of their shows on weekend late nights.
By the way, any word on whether WDBD or WRBJ will go to the CW?

As of March 21, 2006 the CW affiliation goes to...... drumroll please..... WRBJ 34. I look for the tv stations to play musical networks this fall. With WRBJ 34 getting The CW Television Network, WUFX 35 getting MY Network TV affiliation... maybe FOX will go back to WDBD? I mean if they put FOX and My Network TV on one station that will leave WDBD and WXMS independent and im not sure if they're going to program 2 independents... It would be in their best interest to put FOX back on WDBD 40 and leave WXMS independent as apposed to teaming up FOX with MY TV on 35 and leaving WXMS and WDBD independent

We've seen major network shakeups in many cities, including Birmingham, Mobile, and New Orleans. I wonder what the odds are that there will be one in Jackson. Could we see WLBT, WJTV, or WAPT dropping their network affiliation and going for Fox? Usually, the domino effect is started when a station gets sold. I haven't been keeping up with Jackson lately. Are any stations potentially on the block? Or is there any chance that WDBD might make a play for one of the big three networks instead of Fox, assuming any affiliation agreements are coming up for renewal?

Wow! I thought all along that WDBD would be the one that would show the CW because of its stronger signal. I'm not opposed to WRBJ getting the affiliation since they'll probably be on most cable and satellite systems by the time of the CW's launch. Wow! I thought all along that WDBD would be the one that would show the CW because of its stronger signal. I would love to see Fox on a VHF station and start carrying a Fox newscast and leave the local news and shows as is. but that would probally never happen. But if WLBT or WJTV went with Fox then 40, 35, or 34 would get NBC or CBS. Could you imagine what grandma would do if she couldn't get Bob Barker on 12 anymore, since she has never watched anything on UHF? We would have to buy get her a better coat hanger. With all these new stations coming on in recent years its almost impossible to get every channel clear with an outdoor antenna. 3 and 12 are in Raymond, 16 and 40 off Maddox road, 10 is downtown, 35 in Vicksburg, 34 in Magee and not sure where 29 and 27 are but I have to get out and turn the antenna everytime I change channels, I need a rotator. I guess its time to get cable.

Channel 53 is simulcasting a univision station(channel 35) in Oklahoma city with their local news and commercials, all in Spanish of course. And the audio is also turned wide open. It nearly burst the speakers when you tune past it. Channel 49 had some independent network with lots of old movies, Lucy and Beverly Hillbillies but the video has been messed up for months, its just a nearly white screen with some buzzing audio in the background. Apparently the station has been abandoned. It also used to simulcast on channel 8 but I'm not sure if that one is still on the air since I can't pick it up. Lastly I used to pick up a very very weak station on channel 23 coming from Jackson State. Its still listed in the newpaper tv guide but I haven't picked up channel 23 in a long time. Is it still around?

I was discussing this with a cousin of mine. He thinks, too, that it's time for 40, 35 and 27 to start having their own newscasts. Some of you may remember in the early 90s when WDBD had a nightly one-hour newscast called Mississippi News Tonight, which actually broadcasted statewide. However, it didn't last six months. Gene Edwards (who eventually went to WAPT afterwards and later to MPB, where he is now) and Bob Noonan (later became news director/noon anchor at WDAM-TV 7 in Laurel-Hattiesburg) were co-anchors. Michael Rubenstein left WLBT to work for MNT. The operation, however, only lasted about six months or so. I was hoping that WDBD would've tried a nightly news broadcast again. I seem to remember later on that Fox was going to push its affiliates into having newscasts (at the time when WDBD was Fox). Maybe it was just their O&O stations.

Jackson State's channel 23 has had technical problems for a while now. They are moving the transmitter to a new building along with the new WJSU-FM/HD transmitter. They should have it back on the air sometime this summer if not before.

Why do the move? Simple, WUFX 35 is not in stereo but WDBD 40 is. Also, WDBD is more centrally located in the market with a higher tower, giving better coverage. The only reason FOX left 40 in 2001 was that the moronic owners at the time, Pegasus Broadcasting (which declared bankruptcy if I recall correctly), got in a fight with FOX over affiliate fees and flipped 40 to WB. Pegasus started looking for a buyer for 27, 40, and the rights to build 35 a few months after this. They sold the stations to Jackson Television and the right to 35 to Mississippi Television in April 2003.
As mentioned before, WRBJ 34 will become the CW affiliate. Now, if DirecTV will hurry up and add WRBJ to the lineup.

It's also the only one with HD, right? It would be nice to see FOX 40 again. I remember when the network first launched! It was a stupid move to ever change it, especially to WB.

It was definitely stupid, but Pegasus Broadcasting has made stupid decisions on several occasions. They flipped another FOX the same way in another market (Portland, Maine, if I remember correctly).

It was definitely stupid, but Pegasus Broadcasting has made stupid decisions on several occasions. They flipped another FOX the same way in another market (Portland, Maine, if I remember correctly).
