WVLG-LPFM

Anyone rememberr the villages broadcasting news on WVLG-LPFM 103.3?
Why would they pick that freq to broadcast from? WLOQ and WVLG were too close together. they coulda picked a different freq. wonder if that's why they went off the air to begin with?

I heard it driving thru The Villages on the way to Ocala. It was no more than audio of VNN, the Villages News Network TV, on cable systems in the area.

I don't think that interference was an issue, or otherwise the 103.3 would not have even been allowed. Of course, I am still unsure how, or if, IBOC/HD interference affects FCC allocations. Does 103.1 have HD/IBOC?

I'm gonna t try to put my HD antenna outside the window to see if I can get anything from here. And even if they do now, does that mean they did in 2008 or 2009?
If they didhn't have it when WVLG was on, it wouldn't matter much.

^ If I was ever in Orlando in 08-09 (I got married in 2008 and we went to Holyland Experience when we were dating or engaged, but I don't think we've been there since), I didn't play with the radio to find out who had HD and who didn't.

I just looked at www.radiostationworld.com , and it doesn't look like 103.1 has HD at this time.

The Villages turned in the license for the LPFM voluntarily in 2007 or 2008. Basically, the person in charge of the media operation there is a newspaper man. The story that I got is that he hates anything that takes revenue from the newspaper, including all radio, especially WVLG. After WVLG signed several high profile accounts up for big money, an edict went out that WVLG could only call on accounts that do not advertise in the newspaper and they were forbidden to renew any contracts of print advertisers. The newspaper, however, was allowed to give away unlimited bonus spots on WVLG to print advertisers. Since they couldn't sell or give away actual advertisements on it, the LPFM was seen as a waste and a distraction, so they turned it off and gave back the license.
