The Villages turned in the license for the LPFM voluntarily in 2007 or 2008. Basically, the person in charge of the media operation there is a newspaper man. The story that I got is that he hates anything that takes revenue from the newspaper, including all radio, especially WVLG. After WVLG signed several high profile accounts up for big money, an edict went out that WVLG could only call on accounts that do not advertise in the newspaper and they were forbidden to renew any contracts of print advertisers. The newspaper, however, was allowed to give away unlimited bonus spots on WVLG to print advertisers. Since they couldn't sell or give away actual advertisements on it, the LPFM was seen as a waste and a distraction, so they turned it off and gave back the license.
