A few question if I may?
1. How are they in the rateings ?
2. Why is Mark the Spark's intire music collection in mono?
3. Why is Matt "The Best of the 80's" pitched too low?
This 50's-70's Oldies station plays stuff I haven't heard before.
A suggestion , some of the show names on the website should have a description...
Such as BillWebber (standards are mixed in with traditional oldies) or something.

Dead air now. Been that way for about 10 minutes or so. also, who else has noticed the hum that can be heard when there is silence on WVLT?

Is Garry Outlaw sindacated? I believe he is, because i thought I saw him on WCTC 1450. AP Radio news is sindacated I'm thinkin too, because I heard that on XM Potus 130 and have heard it on WVLT, too.
Anyone confirm this?
Also other question about Mark the Shark, he gives a 610 for listeners to call to make requests, and I've heard some blip pop things on his show. Is this show done remotely someware?
Matt uses records or CD's? I heard "Pop Music" skip tonight, and thought I heard record crackel in "Everybody Has Fun Tonight."

WVLT is a very sad case.

The station has a killer signal, even at just 6,000 watts. Here in Ocean County I can get them clearly in Stereo driving around Manahawkin / Long Beach Island / Tuckerton.

WVLT *could* rate in Philadelphia, Monmouth/Ocean, Wilmington and Atlantic City/Cape May if properly programmed. However the ONLY market they ever show in is Wilmington and that's usually just barely a blip.

And how do you suggest they "program properly"? I know for a fact they are making lots of money right now.. and I sure wouldn't want to jeopardize that!
 
They do not come in well in Bensalem, PA... in the car. WVLT probably doesn't program for those markets, because they are not listenable in all of the markit. Like WPST doesn't cover the intire Philly markit.

WVLT is making a lot money because it's practically all brokered programming. PM drive, evenings, nights, weekends - all brokered! You would program it properly by running a consistant format that targets a certain audience: AC or country or news/talk or oldies or CHR or Spanish or hip hop or religious - not all of the above on the same signal.

WVLT is only a handful of miles from being a Philadelphia market station yet it's unknown outside of Cumberland County.

And they make alot of money on renting space on their tower.

My point is.. they broker out the time.. and have a good, consistent incoming coming in..... it works for them. WHy screw with that? They could do a "real" consistent format and would have to work alot harder at it and there's no promise they'd make as much money.

AP Network News is a nationwide news service (i.e. CNN Radio News, CBS News, ABC News, etc.).

WVLT tends to throw on the bird whenever someone doesn't show-up for a shift or they don't have anyone buying that hour or time slot.

So? Even though they've done the same thing for years, with the economy the way it is.. they need to stay with what works for them and bring sin the money.. that's what it's about, plain and simple.

It wasn't that long ago that they DID do a straight AC format. One would think they would have stuck with it had it produced the revenue. It is many an opinion on here that VLT was a joke (I remember references to "The S*** Shack" that bedogged them for many years). Since making the flip to oldies, they have the monies AND the respect.
 
I'll be honest. Some of the oldies is a bit ubscure (nothing like WOGL used to be...), but I feel fortunet to be able to get this signal.
After all, Oldies is a dieing breed, and though SeriusXM has decaids channels, it is programmed differently then say an Oldies or Classic Hits station.

I notice that during brokered hours when they don't run the AP news, they still clear the AP news spots.

By the way... has anyone noticed WVLT starting to add 80's titles to their regular playlist?

AP News doesn't have spots - you pay for it, you get news, no commercials.

(at least it was that way when we used it at New Jersey 101.5)
 
Tom's right. I think they're clearing the Jones Music Network (or whatever service) spots when they're local.
