WVOC Simulcast

who in their right mind...gives a Rat's Ass if we looooooose a...Hip-hop format!!
Less noise...That's a gain!

Ok, careful, your intolerance is showing! I get it, you don't like hip-hop.

On another note: losing the hip-hop station, even though there is another in the market, means less diversity on the dial. Instead of two different stations in question, now there is a friggin' simulcast and that's good for......no one!

I can't believe a combo WVOC-AM-FM will bill better than separately programmed WVOC and WXBT.

By the way, having an AM station that uses syndicasted Conservative Talk most of the day add an FM simulcast hasn't been such a great move in many Southern markets. WBAP Dallas added an FM simulcast but now finds itself down to #14. It had been a top 5 station a few years ago. A couple of Talk stations in Birmingham also have recently added FM simulcasts but their ratings are still poor.

In Minneapolis, Clear Channel put Rush, Hannity, Beck, etc. on an FM station but it did so poorly that they've replaced that station with Sports and returned Rush, Hannity, Beck, etc. to the AM frequency that the Sports station had been on.

Being on FM is not a magic bullet for the all-conservative, all-syndicated, all-day Talk format.\

You make a broad, sweeping statement, then as evidence, you cite two MAJOR MARKET cities, one not Southern, the other is debateable.

How about the success in ATLANTA? Did you forget about that? ::)

Your didn't do a very good job backing up your (possibly biased) assertion.

IMHO, it is all about content. The News/Talk stations that have successfully added an FM simulcast were all doing more than running syndicated conservatalk. In fact, most had a heavy local news reporting presence. WVOC will be a toss-up. There's very little local news content outside of AM/PM drive rip and read. My thoughts are that this was a defensive move.

..it might have been a defensive mood but I'm guessing it was more likely corporate saying "What and/or whom would you like to place on the sacrificial debt-reducing, cost-cutting alter?" And they said, "The Beat."

Also, someone made a good point about the USC contract. If they can wrestle that away from Cumulus, they will come out smelling like a rose, if that's possible these days.

Clear Channel could possible get the Gamecocks I think. Cumulus isn't the same as Citadel. All the cutting Cumulus is doing currently.

But who knows what kind of cutting Clear Channel will do between now and the time the Gamecock rights come back up again? They don't appear to be finished cutting to the bone.

WNOK is now all Premium Choice with the excpetion of the rednecks from Charlotte in the morning and the PD in the afternoon. In fact, I am surprised that they didn't cut the PD position. If everything is basically run off the WAN and programming decisions are made by higher ups, then what does a local PD do?

While I am sure WHXT is thrilled, their company is still in deep trouble on the national level.
Regardless of the owner's troubles and what seems to be a lousy signal, they are now the only hip-hop station until someone changes. That has to be a positive.

I don't know. Premium Choice, as I understand it, is either playlist only or playlist plus voice tracked talent. My guess would be that WCOS is and that WXBT was.
