WWBA's Live and Local 1 hour (9-10 AM)

Ok, they dump their Live and local afternoon guy... NOW a whole HOUR of Live & local 9-10 AM... Or today till Obama speaks around 10:15...

Frankly I'd rather have Bortz back...

WFLA, you're getting me back again ... Glenn HAS to better than this ...

I might even forget to turn up the dial later in the day...

Enjoy the day, if you can...

At least it's an attempt.

Unlike FLA ("We're so fat and full of it..."). They run this disingenuous promo that has callers (not likely ones that ever aired on 970) over and over saying, "Thanks for taking my call.." and "It's great to be on the air..."

Like the station actually takes calls from listeners.

When?

5-9 a.m. Nope. One the station's only local daily show, calls are taken only for contests, not conversations.

9 a.m. - 5 a.m Nope again. Entirely syndicated.

How can one hour be an attempt ??? You just get started, and you're off the air ...

and what's the difference between 9 AM to 5 AM... and 10 AM to 6AM...(Larsen get's to sleep in an extra hour ?)... all downloaded off a big bird in the sky...

Maybe the answer after 9 or 10 AM is FM or XM...

Let's give the guy a chance. One hour is not enough but perhaps it will grow. Dennis Miller in the afternoon? I think his show should be called, "Let me talk down to you all".

Perhaps they are grooming this guy for better things.... like... oh.. afternoons?

Now that MJ is in auto-destruct mode, this is the perfect time for WWBA to go Live & Local in the afternoon again. People don't like a whiner, and public opinion on this lawsuit ain't going his way. Denis Miller sucks hard. WWBA needs to strike while the iron is hot. We need more local talk, even if it's bad local talk. Even a bush league talk host could clean up, all he has to do is open up the phones and let the listeners know it's their show. If you build it, they will come.

Now, that's the kind of programming I - and many other listeners - could go for.

Left, right, center, whatever. Just get an engaging host who doesn't only want to knock Barak all day or go off on how bad the liberals always are, etc.

Hence why 970 sucks big time most of the day.

I would agree, depending on your definition of "bad." Brian Fasulo set WWBA back years. He didn't understand the dynamics of talk radio and didn't care to learn. Their current tryout, being from radio, may have more of a clue. But he's going to have to make a stink to get noticed in this town -- and Genesis doesn't like that sort of thing.

What I thought was sad was the lack of calls. Back in the 80's, Tampa's talk stations had legions of "chronics" who would call in at the drop of a hat. Consultants have told talk programmers that chronics are bad. Nonsense. Chronics give a station a local flavor. WWBA should cultivate chronic callers.

Why can't we just get Air America?

... Genesis doesn't like that sort of thing.

They have already cut Boortz an hour before. Here is a good program 4-1/2 hours long and they only carry 1-1/2 hours of it. What they should have done was move the infomercial redneck financial advisor Ramsey to Saturday where all the other infomercials run. Then restore the rest of Boortz and carry the full 3 hours of Dennis Miller. If this guy is being tried out or is a relative of the owner, he should run on Sunday nite like FLA does with their lesser talent.

Wow, another brokered show? Not in this market.... Naaa. Not the former home of Radio Free Rocky Dee. (Till he ran out of money) Or Glenn Kline on line (Till he ran out of money)

Or The Dr .Robyn Show for swingers (Till she ran out of money) Or one of my favs was the drunk guys on TAN in the afternoons who brought a keyboard into the studio, preached and sang cocktail music with strong New York accents. (Till they ran out of money)

Anyone know of a successful brokered talk show out there that’s not promoting a car lot of mortgage broker or natural doc?

The New York guy proclaimed one day that he was going to be "bigger than Howard Stern" because misery and suffering were what people wanted to hear on the radio.

I'm kinda glad he ran out of money.

I've been away from 1040 all week until I heard about this at noon on Friday. Who exactly is this guy? Has he been around before? Is he just some guy they pulled off the street? A janitor at the Genesis Compound? A house plants and hemorrhoids guy?

Guess I'll be forced to get back in the swing of things on Monday. However, I'm pissed off about one more hour taken from Boortz. He had two hours, Snow gets the gig at the WH and Boortz gets four, Boortz gets down to three for O'Reilly, 2.5 for local news, now he's down to an hour and 45 minutes.

Makes you wonder what's gonna happen next with all this posturing and throwing in total unknowns during the freaking day.

FYI, Rocky D did NOT pay for airtime when he was on WHNZ. He was paid by them in (valueless) airtime which he sold mainly to small arms dealers. The show was actually kind of interesting- like listening to Michael Savage with a cerebral hemorrhage. (And Missy was HOT!). I heard Rocky on WTMA in Charleston last May- he's on in PM Drive and was doing a remote broadcast from outside some minor tax protest, on a very very bad cellphone connection. Nothing had changed.

Now Dr Robyn DID pay for airtime, and I'm talking cash, not sex (thank G-d). I told her to talk less about bizarre sex toys and more about relationship issues and the show did "improve", but the money ran out <sigh>. One very successful brokered show is the Roex Health Update, where an elderly weightlifter with a bachelors in engineering chats with a moronic shil sbout how you're being poisoned by the chlorine in your shower water. They've been on 'HNZ for nine years or so (RIPE for cranking) and make millions selling vitamins you can buy in Walgreens for $2 for 20 times that price. Those French vitamins have GREAT quality control.

Sing it with me now: "Colon Blow and Youuuuuuu... In the Morning".

Rocky DID pay when he was at WTAN. He sucked. Dr. Robyn was (and is) hot and a very nice person. I miss her sex show, the last radio she did was at a small station in Bradenton that you can hear real well about a mile from the stick. Her show was no longer about sex and put me to sleep quickly.

The Roex show and just about any nutritional show always does well. www.accentradionetwork.com is a very successful 24 hour network that is paid for and owned by a nutritional company. Also the investment shows do well. I still miss the drunk New Yorkers with the keyboard.

I see ARN has "Daniel Chapter One", one of the most bizarre brokered vitamin shows ever, mixing Holy Roller religion with nutraceuticals. Ummm, yeah. That is some serious must-not-hear radio. We could win this holy war against the infidels if only we could force them to take our supplement pills.

I agree about Dr Robyn, she is very nice, but doesn't have enough talent to make it big-time in the crowded radio syndication biz. The Dr Ruth thing is so 25-years-ago, and without the shock value of the 18-inch electric inflatable goose-liver-down-filled microsonic sex toy, she has no discernible shtick (sorry...)

Yes, Rocky "paid" for his airtime at 'TAN- I think he supplied WaagonTrainWreck with Jack Daniels. I loved when he did his 'HNZ show from the (temporary) Reo Street facility and there was a utility pole right outside the window which he kept referring to as the "ClearChannel Power Pole". ("...And Missy in a bikini". That small photo led to the most web hits ever on the WHNZ site.)

Brokered radio leaves its own set of hallucinogenic memories and hideous flashbacks...

Who was the "live and local" guy today? He was on at 10:00 AM and was talking about people in Pinellas Park and Lutz being rednecks. Is Boortz out all the way now?

What's going on at 1040?

I listened to WWBA's live & local from 11a.m. -12p.m. on friday. THE most embarrassingly painful radio I've heard in years. Bring back the syndication, even Neal Boortz if you must.

Boortz is on vacation (thankfully, he should take more absences).
Herb Cain, apparently, is a bit too much to take.

Dan Gabar or whatever his name is (sorry, can't recall) sounds okay. I don't have any problem with it.

I do think, however, this show as well as the guy on at 9:00 a.m., would be better instead of Dave Ramsey or Dennis Miller.

Put it this way: these live and local shows are better to listen to than Boortz constantly chatting with Belinda and Royal about something trivial, such as his private plane or the trouble he goes through in his daily life ( like keeping out of the "diamond" or commuter HOV lanes in Atlanta.).

It's certainly better to listen to than the bitter partisan who literally screams when any of his callers try to bring up a taboo topic. I found it highly hypocritical the other week when Boortz got his nose adjar when a caller started talking about abortion or creationism.

After a caller called him on his hypocrisy of banning callers from starting the topics all while Boortz - who so arrogantly nags his listeners not to bring up the subjects - sits there and tantalizes or bear=baits them by bringing up the topics himself! Do a search online of the boor and see how he ticks off many listeners with that "tact."

Bootze arrogantly said, "When I say I don't discuss those topics, I mean callers aren't allowed to bring them up. I, as host, however am perfect and can bring them up anytime."

The bombast likely looks at himself every time he passes a mirror. He gives Limbaugh a run for being most arrogant.

Rumor has it that the new guy on from 9:00 – 10:00 is also the new P.D. of the station.
Maybe he will bring more local shows to WWBA it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I think that the powers that be at WWBA are pretty high on this guy and the thought is that he has a lot of talent! ???
