OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WWCD-CD101 @ 102.5 fm leaving Worly Building, Staying in the Brewery District

Columbus, OH – February 4, 2011 – Locally and independently owned WWCD-CD101 @ 102.5 fm is relocating from the Worly Building at 503 S. Front Street to 1036 S. Front Street, currently the Swiss Chalet Party Haus.

“We are extremely excited to be moving The Alternative Station into its very own building while staying in the Brewery District where the last fifteen years of our history has been built,” said WWCD General Manager Randy Malloy. “We welcome Shadowbox Cabaret to the neighborhood and look forward to book-ending the Brewery District with them.”

WWCD moved into the Worly Building in 1996 from a small, stand-alone building on S. High Street where the radio station was born.

“With Shadowbox Cabaret’s plans to move into the Brewery District this summer, many hours were spent exploring a way for WWCD and Shadowbox to coexist in the Worly Building. We are very appreciative of repeated efforts on behalf of The Worly Building management and Bill Schottenstein to work out a solution that would have allowed us to stay. Ultimately, given the space requirements for Shadowbox, we would not have been able to keep the Big Room to remain in our current space.”

The Big Room is a performance space at WWCD studios that regularly features national touring artists in an intimate and personal setting, offering listeners a one-of-a-kind concert experience. Recent performers in the Big Room include: Band of Horses, Cage the Elephant, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Posies, Phoenix, & Franz Ferdinand.

As for a timeline for the move, Randy Malloy simply stated he “hopes to begin broadcasting from The Alternative Station Party Haus by the beginning of summer.”

WWCD-FM is a locally owned and operated alternative radio station that began broadcasting in August 1990.

Has the ink dried yet on this press release? Thanks.... The Columbus Dispatch will do something on this story.

Here is a photo of their new building:

More into on the current Swiss Chalet Party Haus:

Question, Will they keep the Big Room the same size when they move to Swiss Chalet Party Haus building.

Also, Will WWCD FINALLY re-brand themselves with this office/studio move and will they finally fix the poor audio on 102.5? ???

Saw it posted to the CD101 err 102.5 Facebook page earler this afternoon. Guess it shows that "Fun With Radio" is committed to the 102.5 Frequency (even if they won't brand themselves as such)

Saw this posted on their Facebook site today:

Brandon Woods:
hey CD101..101 always sounded a little low-fi or whatever but damn, 102.5 sounds like complete s**t. Thanks for justifying my sirius subscription!

Lets hope this gets FIXED during their relocation to the new studio!

Honestly the move doesn't make much sense.. Their further away from the Brewery district and further away from Arena/Short North which you would think would be CD102 err target area. However, they are still in the general location as they have been the entire life of the station .. they started out in a small building on South High St prior to moving to Front St.

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they carried their large 101.ONEFM banner to their new larger "Big Room" digs. It's still up as of January 31, 2011:

Great tune! Sounds just like a lost classic from the Motown/Philly/Memphis era. Headed right over to Itunes. The horns, and all the production sound awesome on the studio version. This is going to be stuck in my head for a month.

This photo, taken of the CD101 "Big Room", as of last Tuesgay night. Still the LARGE 101.1FM banner is there:

A better angle of the LARGE 101.1FM banner from a concert last year in the "Big Room:

My point you ask?? Maybe when [email protected] moves into it's new studio/offices and larger "Big Room", maybe they will finally
realize they aren't on 101.1FM anymore!

The Other Paper did a story on the CD101 relocation today:

Is CD101 moving to keep its Big Room?
Shadowbox Live is taking over some of the space, but it denies that it's pushing the station out

“If it’s too loud, you’re too old.”

That’s probably true. But when your neighbors are a bunch of lawyers who can put a stop to your jammin’ with a harshly worded injunction or well-timed litigation, it’s best to take them seriously.

Having lawyers as neighbors is one reason that CD101 will vacate the southeast corner of the Worly Building at 503 S. Front St. to move into a new space just a few blocks down the road at 1036 S. Front.

Maybe this is the hint to us that they will finally forget they aren't on 101.1FM anymore!

It was not just the miffed lawyers, said station officials. Malloy said the reasons included the loss of friends like on-air personality Wendy Steele five years ago, and deejay and program director Andyman Davis last fall.

“There are too many familiar things that remind us of Andy and Wendy,” Malloy said. “It was time to make a new home somewhere else.”

But the "Big Room" is unique to radio boaadcasting these days? If so, give them lots credit for it. ;)

By now I doubt it. There are some things that oddly just never change in Columbus radio, and I think WWCD is determined to steal the crown for premier practitioner of such stubbornness -- and in an admittedly novel way.

On a more serious note, I had forgotten about the sad loss of Wendy Steele, even after the shocking passing of Andyman.

I wouldn't hold my breath on THAT one. Unless tOSU finally gets around to slapping a lawsuit on WWCD, they will not drop the "101" from their name.

That could be a decent excuse. Still stupid and pathetic to hang onto an anachronistic number as the core of their branding.

And I'd expect them to hang up the big "CD101" banner prominently in the new studios/offices.

If they're concerned about things reminding them of Andy and Wendy, why are they hanging onto the CD101 brand, anyway?

And notice what's missing from the "Other Paper" story linked here? "102.5"

I suppose you could make an argument for the paper's readers not needing to be reminded of the frequency, but still...

I think moving they should drop the drop the 101 name... However I have friends who listen to CD102.5 and and they still call it 'cd101'
