WWGP was country for the longest time (ever since the 70s, maybe longer ...)
Hearing oldies on 1050 AM just ain't right ...

Roger on that, thanks for the History lesson. That being the case, I hear ya on the format change. Them being such a community-oriented station, wonder if they have/had any preachers on, as in daily or weekly? I believe there is a link in the article, need to check it out myself. Unfamiliar with the name of whom you spoke, but some folk are in the business a looooooong time. Some years ago, I got acquainted with a station in WV and one of their DJs had been there since like 1979 and last time I heard her on the air, she was like ninety and still had a great handle on her job, no kiddin'!
According to their website, MARGARET’S MAILBAG is on the station, so sounds like she's still there.
Listening to the stream right now and Swap Shop/request show is on. The host just took a call from a listener requesting Tim McGraw's "Better Than I Used to Be," and it's playing now. Could the new format's library not be ready yet, or is the flip being eased in?
Yeah, I saw Swap Shop on the site, glad to see some of that classic radio still around. Re: the country song, well, it is a request show, in part LOL.
Now, that's possible. I remember something similar on WKRK, Murphy (sp), called Party Line, minus the requests, if memory serves.
It appears that Miss Margaret Murchison is alive and well. Tuned in a while ago and she was shufflin' 'em papers and readin' 'em off, so yeah, she's still there and doing a fine job, from all indications.
The Swap Shop is also legendary. It started sometime in in the late 70s or early 80s just as a 30 minute program that eventually grew into a monster! There's now even a Saturday edition! The program can be quite entertaining at times!!!
As for Margaret Murchison, she must be in her 80s at the most if not near 80. Not too much gets past her! She is a joy to be around!!!
But after at least 50 years of country music, oldies on WWGP does not seem to sound right.
I like the web streams but the new web sites for WWGP and siter station WFJA, 105.5 FM are still works in progress.

Didn't WFJA just go through a format change, too? Got one ID from them ('FJA) 'round here, somewhere, on one of my old ID tapes.
Did used to work at WWGP/WFJA back in the 90s. And, I live not too far from Sanford, though I probably spend more time in Pinehurst and Southern Pines these days.
If they're using a satellite-delivered source for the oldies, they may not have an oldies library of their own to draw on in case any of the Swap Shop listeners want the Supremes rather than Tim McGraw. And I'd imagine requests for oldies will eventually start coming in as listeners from other day parts catch on to the new format.
Roger on that. Thought you worked there at some time, the way you responded, which, thanks for doing so. Used to sing during Revival Meetings back in like '94 or so, at churches in Olivia and Broadway. Last time I was down that-a-way, was in Broadway, on a late Saturday afternoon, back in the mid 2000s.
Heard an Oldies song at the end of one of Miss Margaret's segments, this morning, so reckon they may have some. It played right before the top of the hour, with the DJ thanking her for her announcements and saying they'd be back to/with her later, then going to AP news.
