WWMM it's official.... Live 100.5 Modern Music

About the call letters...AFAIK, this is the first time a station in the Birmingham market has ever had "double-W's" in the call sign...and I've been following radio in Birmingham for over 35 years. And the only stations I can think of that had two non-consecutive W's in the call sign were WTWG-1220 (post WBUL, pre WAYE) and WOWC-102.5 (post WZBQ, pre WDXB).

OK, I think I may get the award for the most meaningless post on this board for 2008. :)

Here's another meaningless post about Birmingham call letters I've noticed, too (our minds must think alike, lol). As far as I know, the only station which ever used "WW" in their call sign is WWIV/WWBR in Trussville. I've also noticed there has always been a prevalence of Birmingham stations which use two identical letters in sequence. Seems like Birmingham has stations which use this "double sequence" call letter phenomenon more often than in other cities. For example, current Birmingham station with the "double sequence" are:

WMJJ
WZRR
WZZK
WENN
WAGG
and now WWMM (this one has two sets: "W's" and "M's")

and former stations:

WZZK (on 610 and 1320)
WGTT (AM 1500 in Alabaster)
WRKK
WRRS
WENN (on 107.7 and 105.9)
WWBR
WWIV (original calls of 105.9)
WKXX
and WFFX (even though this one is stretching it a bit, as WFFX really never was a Birmingham station until it became "Jamz"). :)

Did I miss any?
I think I must have too much time on my hands... :D

The audience really hated commercials. Outside of morning drive, spots were limited to 8 minutes or 12 units per hour with 10 minutes or 14 units allowed in PM drive.

8 minutes during non-prime hours?

Geez, no wonder I don't listen to musicradio anymore.

Try comparing that to TV. A 30 minute sitcom actually lasts just 18 minutes. Radio commercial interruptions are very reasonable compared to TV. Then if you want to include other media try opening a magazine and see how long it takes to find some actual content. Newspapers are maybe 50-50. Billboards, of course, don't have any content besides the ad.

You may not like hearing ads but when you compare radio to anything else that you receive "for free" I think you'll find we ask very little in return.

Since when have 30 minute programs been shortened to 18 minutes? I am, admittedly, out of touch with prime-time television. Last I recall it was 22 minutes for the half-hour shows and 52 minutes for the hour. Hey, just like radio! ;D

A better comparison would be that you get 8 minutes of commercials an hour FOR FREE on radio, yet somehow I manage to pay $50/month for 150 channels WITH commercials. D'oh.

Ads on radio don't bother me, it's repetition of ads that bother me. I can't speak for musicradio since I don't listen to much of it anymore, but on talkradio the repetition is just awful, and worse on the talk channels of XM. There's only so many times I can hear a PSA for volunteering before I wanna eat a bullet.

You're right...22 minutes for a half hour show but I'm pretty sure it's a lot less than 52 for a full hour. More like 44 which is twice as much commercial time as (some) radio but you hear more complaining about radio ads than tv. That's because radio listeners notice ads and pay attention more than tv viewers. Something for advertisers to note.

groovy....stuff i heard today i LOVE:

counting crows - > mrs. potter

and of course...finally....TALKING HEADS!!

lol

Speaking of shotgun shacks...

How will WWMM affect Q-100's call letters???????????????????????????????????

Slam dunk.
