WWWN "a work in progress" (Robert Feder)

They take that 'a work in progress' serious...almost a week on the air and still no decent website and livestream online...

I understand the concept of "ironing the bugs out" but given all of the money and effort that has gone into 3WN, it's quite a disappointment. Not sure what's up with the talent, but they sound amateurish. LOTS of flubs and foul ups. The SFX used are not-at-all-ready-for-prime-time. Truly bush league. What in the heck is that bicycle bell anyway?

So not only has this station not had time to gel, it hasn't even congealed into anything yet. A very rough listen at this point. Bad enough that Merlin should have held off on this until they got their excrement together. As they seem to be doing in New York.

Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise that there is no livestream? ???

WBBM will kill them. The've got to be laughing hysterically at CBS.

Agreed - hysterical laughter over there! I've already programmed 105.9 in to both car stereos and have already developed the habit of hitting that button to catch traffic on the 8's!

As for 101.1? No preset for them - just the occasional listen-in. And, I do less and less sampling as time goes on because it's so bad. What are they doing over there? When listening, I just can't believe that this format - as now presented - will appeal to anyone. Too much crapola for men and/or women with brains to stand (they'll head to WBBM or talk); too much news and info for bubble-headed fans of the Kardashians and Jersey House-Hos.

This station needs to decide what it's going to be. I recall when CBS acquired KFWB and decided that it would be "entertainment based" news so as not to compete with KNX. In doing so, CBS destroyed that station. The ratings evaporated very quickly and this once-great station has now been reduced to being a waste of electricity that nobody listens to. Mostly birdfeed. The "infotainment" based news format has been tried before (remember Blink in NY?) and it has failed miserably every time. Yet 101.1 isn't totally that, but it leans that way. Personally, I don't see it working for them. And that's assuming that they will get the mistakes under control.

You spoke exactly my thoughts BRNout. Granted there's a long way to go & WBBM is smart to take nothing for granted, but I see clear sailing for them. They have nothing to worry about from 101.1.

I think they rushed "FM News 101.1". I even saw "Chicago's Alternative Q101" appear several time on my RDS.

As far as the quality of presentation: There seems to be no stability. The choice of order of stories seems to have no smoothness from one item to the next. It's about as smooth as a piece of coral. The delivery is amateurish, especially considering all the well-worn talent they have. One host (if that's what you call them) laughed through a station about old folks' habits affecting their longevity.

What's with the reverb?

At this rate, I don't see "FM News 101.1" becoming the "You can count on us for..." kind of station.

WBBM with or without FM, has nothing to worry about.

101.1 might have just reran old tapes of NBC's News-and-Information Service from 1976 and it would be 1000% better than 3WN's current attempt. Seriously.

Hey I think you're on to something. That's a good idea.

"Work in Progress"???

I wanted to like this thing. I really did. But "Train Wreck" is a better description. And a bad one, at that. It's either a train wreck or "stunt part II".
