WXBQ dominates again

Thanks for backing up my point, rt.

Because as you mentioned with the jocks, why don't you give credit where it is due? To the jocks?

Many- not all- but many of them being "yes" men. Years ago, I remember talking to one WXBQ DJ who had an evening shift who went on and on about being on Valley Drive. How he'd turned down opportunities to be a morning guy in a larger market because he was at WXBQ! WHOO-HOO!

His reward? A few weeks later he was moved to overnights.

History proves your theory about another country station incorrect. WXBQ is basically No. 1 because they bought up the rest of their competition. WQUT was BY FAR the top station in the market in the late '80s. Classic Hits 102.7 has had no history and a format one might consider would be targeted to listeners set in their ways- yet they became one of the top stations in the market almost overnight.

Their other stations fail to win their ratings battles.

Besides, common sense should tell you the success of any entity- broadcasting, sales, whatever, would not come from a clam who has no idea what is going on at his place of business and walks around like he's better than everyone else.

if anyone on this message board knew what it would take to beat XBQ, or anyone else in the Tri for that matter...I highly doubt they would be wasting their consulting talents posting here for free....

One of the great problems with radio in this market is that there probably IS more talent lurking on message boards like this than at the station.

With the combination of corporate suits trying to paint every market by numbers (and forgetting about markets that don't qualify as "major") and the locals who say "I've done it this way for 40 years" or who lack imagination or knowledge, the innovative doesn't just fall by the wayside, but often pure common sense.

Pratte:

So, where do you work at in radio?

I am sure I know the answer to that one.

Isn't it about time to get off Mr. Hagy's case. Everyone in this business has been "canned" at some point in time. Do we hold a venomous grudge like you Pratte. I speculate that Mr. Hagy canned you.

Don't go postal. Go out and find you another job in radio or at McDonald's. It doesn't matter which. Both pay like crap. Actually Mickey D's pays better.

I'm doing quite well- thanks for asking.

The thread started as "Let's give WXBQ some love!"

I believe it deserves not "love," whatever that is, but honest and constructive analysis. Just like any station.

If the WXBQ "lovers" can't stand the truth, then stay off the message board.

Truth?

No offense intended, but it sounds like your idea of "truth" in this instance has been deeply clouded by your dislike of Bill Hagy, WXBQ, Bristol Broadcasting, or a combination of all three. Real truth is objective, not subjective. What you proffer is opinion, not substantiated, objective, empirical truth. If you were fired from BBC I can understand your attitude, but given the amount of vitriol in your posts and the amount of time that has passed since this took place, you really need to let it go, if for no other reason than holding on to such things can damage your own health.

As CharleyHorse noted, everyone in this business has been canned, but we get over it and move on with our lives. I've been canned twice in my 42 years in radio - once as a disc jockey because I was young and stupid (and deserved to be canned), and once as an engineer due to budget cuts. But both times, I moved on with my life and career. I didn't hold a grudge against either former employer. I certainly didn't go public and call people "low-lifes" or similar negativisms in an open forum.

Bottom line: do yourself a favor and get over it. You'll feel better as a result.

So, let's see here . . .

I give historical data, inside knowledge, and market analysis to back up my points. The other posters then try to make it personal on ME!

Telling.

If I wanted to MAKE it personal, well, what you have just read would be extremely light in comparison.

The thing is, I really don't "hate" Bill Hagy. But he has been a very overrated figure and some of the things his homers write on here is just unbelievable.

So I respond to the false data.
