i guess the ship isnt sinking quite yet they wisely put it on wxks fm hd2!! http://ow.ly/4UfnF

This is a quite interesting development. I guess they are serious about sticking with this format.
How will this help with ratings which are rock bottom? Comes in crystal clear on HD2.

This move may not make all that much difference from a practical standpoint, BUT....what this DOES do is to send a message to the rest of the industry in the market that CC isn't cashing in its chips on 1200 JUST yet.

Who knows???....What with the strange goings-on over at 96.9, it just could be that 1200 winds up as the only WRKO alternative. ;)

sorry i should have linked my Facebook account where i saw it instead but that's where it takes you at first!!

A couple times I tried to pull in 107.9's HD signal but no luck with the portable; in Woburn nr Winchester and in Arlington. The HD signals on these portables can be hit or miss. I will say
that on my reg. car radio (not an HD model), 1200 was running a liner saying they are now on 107.9 HD-2.

But how many people can pick it up, and where? I don't know how much power these HDs are
putting out and yes, maybe a car unit or home unit would bring me better luck.
Ah, but here in Beverly I am getting it --display as "Wxks-Am/ Talk-1200"
Scanning down the dial...WROR's HD signals coming in
WODS: nope (only the HD-1)
WKLB--yes HD-2 comes in
WZLX--took a few seconds other than others, but it came in
Sports Hub--Nope... is CBS switched off?
WTKK: Nope
WMKK: The HD2 and HD3 show up right away. They should: the stick is maybe 5 miles away
WBOS: Yes

etc. Anyway, does CBS have their HDs shut off? For the record, CC's WXKS-FM HD2 did show up here but not closer to Boston (being on 3rd floor may have helped).

HUMOR/NON-HUMOR Post Status: Non-Humor

I have only occasionally been able to get WXKS-FM-HD in Andover. All the other Boston, Manchester, and Worcester stations come in fine in HD all the time. I get all the other stations on the Pru just fine in HD. I even get WERS in HD, and their antenna is at a lower HAAT and they use 1/5 the power.

Yes, and I didn't even go lower than 92 in my checking out of HD reception but they can do very well too (WGBH, WERS et al). ERS of course has a translator on 101.5 in Rockport too

all those stations here in southeast near the ri border, wttk, wxks hd1,2,wbz fm,wzlx, wsrs, wbos, wsne, etc all come in hd!! i have a radio shack tv antenna hooked into the back of my Accurian hd radio!! and whjy when its actually turned on. now on Saturday morning wxks's hd was turned off for some reason but was back on when i came home at 3 from work!!

WMWM, good jazz Sunday nights and Sunday Night Chill.

I live in Salem at sea level and I get all the HD's perfectly. All I use for an antenna are old VHF rabbit ears.
Sometimes WZLX HD3 (Free Form 'BCN) comes in spotty.

Sure...for the four people in this market who have HD radios.

Rush Limbaugh in HD sounds just as horrible as Rush Limbaugh on AM.

Maybe so, but only three people listen to this station on AM.
Just because I said this station comes in crystal clear dosen't mean that I listen to it.
I don't understand how anybody can listen to Rush for more than about thirty seconds.

Over 600 affiliates, makes lots of money. People are listening and for a lot longer than 30 sec. For better or worse he helped to boost talk radio and "save AM" at least for now

Ratings?

O.K. let me add this, if WTKK blows up the talk format and does something else, then WXKS-AM may have a fighting chance.
What I have noticed is that in Boston you have to have local hosts and not just in morning drive time.
This station is being supported by the massive giant Clear Channel. Maybe they can afford to do this for quite a while.

Well, make it five listeners to WXKS-HD2 :)

If CC's goal was to maximize coverage, particularly west of the city, wouldn't it have made more sense to use one of WJMN's HDs?

Now if Entercom would put WRKO on one of WAAF's or WKAF's HD subchannels...

...and a horrific example of America's so-called taste in radio programming. Who would have thought, 40 years ago, that the most profitable programming on AM radio would be reactionary right-wing political propaganda?
