Who would have thought, 40 years ago, that the most profitable programming on AM radio would be reactionary right-wing political propaganda?

Who woulda thought 45 years ago that a bunch of hippies, smoking dope in the studios, with no real radio experience...would begin the next big format wave....and the awakening of FM in America?

There's no accounting for taste.

Who'd have thought, 45 years ago, people would still be listening to radio while texting on portable pocket video phones?

Will AM still exist in a few years? FM certainly dominant--yet there was a time when the opp. was true. As for Rush, etc., he proved talk could be entertaining and that even those who'd disagree
with him could be attracted. Thus (mostly right) talk greatly expanded across the nation because, whether you agree with him or not, he has good communication skills. That same skill helped to elect Presidents ranging from a former actor to a former community organizer.

Had Rush on for a couple minutes last week while driving; was just about to go into a car wash
but someone called and asked why he picked My City Was Gone as a theme, and Rush went into
why, and explained how they couldn't use it for awhile, etc. For me, it was so interesting I pulled my car over for 3-4 minutes instead of going into the car wash, and listened. He has pull and can communicate.

And...who would have thought that a station with the call letters WBCN would be not in Boston but in Charlotte, with these talk hosts: Amer Morning News, Beck, Smerconish, Hannity, Ingraham, etc.

That's right folks: "You're listening to Sean Hannity on WBCN!"
:p

Isn't Rush Limbaugh a drug addicted hippie?

Sadly, WBCN in Charlotte probably gets a better share with their talk format than WXKS-AM does in Boston.

Well, not sure if anybody is listening, but Talk 1200 does sound great in HD. Despite the signal upgrade, 1200 AM is still very spotty. The previous format on 107.9 HD-2 - basically the same format as KISS 108 - was a complete waste. Entercom needs to follow Clear Channel's lead and put 680 on one of their HD sub-channels. 97.7 HD-2/107.3 HD-2 (WAAF 'live' rock - neither of which come in very often where I'm at) in particular is a travesty. As long as this HD thing is still around, stations might as well make the best use of them possible.
