I gave them a chance and after listening to
WXRJ since around their "sign on" I have to state I am disappointed.
NOTHING LOCAL. In my opinion this radio station is nothing more than a glorified mp3 player airing the personal favorites of Aaron C and his associates. This
IS NOT what the LPFM licenses were created for! They were to be
local...
community involved "
hometown radio stations". They were supposed to fill the gap and abandonment that had been done to localism by the BIG "cookie cutter" broadcast corporations. Unfortunately, I see
WXRJ is unwilling or unable to be the local station they agreed to be when applying for their license. No eight hours a day of
LOCAL originating programming can be found. They are not even playing local artists/talent. Instead they are playing national material that is available via other commercial terrestrial radio stations, satellite, webcasting and via mp3. In my opinion, this "
non for profit" organization is abusing this special LPFM license. A license that is extremely difficult to obtain.
Another sad thing, I heard from someone at church, that
WXRJ is trying to circumvent the restrictions of commercial advertising on their airwavesby possibly "bending" the rules when it comes to allowing commercials.
There is no excuse for improper and illegal operations. In my opinion, if
WXRJ is not able to comply with the FCC application they applied for...then they need to cease operation till they can be legal.
Below is the url to the FCC application for
WXRJ. Also, I still find it seems
WXRJ is being clandestine on who their contributors have been...a good question is...why?
