WXRJ BLOOMINGTON ON-AIR SEPTEMBER 22nd

I agree with you Skipper. Can't forget Banks' operation in Peoria in the 90s. I also find it strange the mentioning of a local corporation donating over $50K in equipment. What local corporation? Was this revealed on camera? As others have posted previously...I find it odd that the money behind this endeavor seems to be hidden from the public. Did anyone see this TV piece? Was the address/location of the studios/business offices given?

The point being missed is that WXRJ is the first locally operated radio station like this in Bloomington-Normal/Mc Lean County. Yes, WDZ gets in during the day...yes the old Bank's urban had a signal reach B/N...and lets don't forget...20 odd years ago WBMX was listenable via cable...but...none of them originated out of B/N.

Thanks... I thought that, but did not want to assume...

WXRJ DROPS THE BALL

In my opinion with foul weather plaguing the area...this was an critical time for WXRJ to show the community it is an important part of it...being more than a JUKE BOX/MP3 player and something that needs to be supported.

Unless their power is so low...I heard NOTHING...zero...no weather/public service information. What a Great Community Radio Station HA-HA-HA! :(

The GM of WXRJ said it best on the WEEK-TV piece..."I don't think the other radio stations have anything to worry about"

http://www.week.com/news/local/12094641.html

So, true! In my opinion all that has been shown is a new radio station that should be up to speed (long time in planning stages) was unable to help during a time of foul weather...and all that seems to be important is playing music...MUSIC that has been played to death as is and is available via Bird or webcasts or to download on any mp3 player. When I want to hear SJ...ie Ramsey Lewis, The Rippingtons, Dave Koz or Euge Groove as an example I will listen on my portable player or web...not tune into some rinky dink radio station that doesn't have it's act together and in my opinion doesn't really seem to care about the community.

This also shows...in my opinion that the Operations Manager Aaron C is over his head. He should have paid attention to what was going on across the hall at WJBC when he spent all those years at WBNQ...but, talking to the chicks on the phone and pulling carts was more important. It would be wise of him to check out his former colleagues Scott Robbins and Scott Laughlin...who both know how to serve the community!

I am serious about this...anyone who posts here interested in starting a webstation with me playing a blend of Smooth Jazz? How about it Nosferatu...Edgar? You two game? I doubt P-R would be...since he seems to be nothing more than a glorified cheerleader for WXRJ. If you two or anyone is interested, I have the equipment and the material. I know we could offer something that would be 24/7...have more community involvement and be capable of being listened in BUILDINGS in B/N and all over McLean County. WXRJ isn't streaming...and as slow as they are...I doubt they will in the near future.

WXRJ DROPPED THE BALL AGAIN!

In my opinion WXRJ dropped the ball again during the past weekend. Failing to provide the community safety and weather information during severe weather. Since it is apparent they have the capability to play MUSIC in a loop and to air what produced materials they are...in my opinion...then it is obvious if unable or unwilling to be LIVE and Local...WXRJ has the capability to record information for the community that they are trying to suck money out of like a vampire. Also, with seven years in the planning stages and since heavily in 2006 of promoting going on the air soon...they have had more than enough time to get their act together and be able to do more than be a mp3 player/jukebox. WHO DONATED the equipment? Where is the money going that has been and is being donated? Who is being paid? Unless I am missing it...there is no disclosure. Where is the Public File located (since I or others might want to look at it)? Where are the studios and business offices exactly (I have heard conflicting stories on locations)? Why the clandestine and in my opinion almost Pirate Radio behavior?

In my opinion a webcast station would be as effective and a better use of people's monies if they are thinking to donate to something.

I gave them a chance and after listening to WXRJ since around their "sign on" I have to state I am disappointed. NOTHING LOCAL. In my opinion this radio station is nothing more than a glorified mp3 player airing the personal favorites of Aaron C and his associates. This IS NOT what the LPFM licenses were created for! They were to be local...community involved "hometown radio stations". They were supposed to fill the gap and abandonment that had been done to localism by the BIG "cookie cutter" broadcast corporations. Unfortunately, I see WXRJ is unwilling or unable to be the local station they agreed to be when applying for their license. No eight hours a day of LOCAL originating programming can be found. They are not even playing local artists/talent. Instead they are playing national material that is available via other commercial terrestrial radio stations, satellite, webcasting and via mp3. In my opinion, this "non for profit" organization is abusing this special LPFM license. A license that is extremely difficult to obtain.

Another sad thing, I heard from someone at church, that WXRJ is trying to circumvent the restrictions of commercial advertising on their airwavesby possibly "bending" the rules when it comes to allowing commercials.

There is no excuse for improper and illegal operations. In my opinion, if WXRJ is not able to comply with the FCC application they applied for...then they need to cease operation till they can be legal.

Below is the url to the FCC application for WXRJ. Also, I still find it seems WXRJ is being clandestine on who their contributors have been...a good question is...why?
