WYAY 106.5

Remember, for a while they simulcast on 104.1, WYAI (which sounds nearly exactly like WYAY.) I always thought it was so creative that you could year the Y106 ID and jingles on 106.7 and hear the Y104 ID and jingles on 104.1. Yet, all the jocks always said, "Y106 and Y104" identifying both stations.

Pretty cool, but even cooler: they could have done what was done in Syracuse NY: I had a friend who worked at WTKW TK-99. He was simulcast on Rock 107 WRCK 107.3. He would open the mic (making sure it was assigned only to TK) and do his wrap starting it with 'TK99....' and you would hear either a segue or liner on 107.3, and vice versa over the next song. The station kept totally separate identities. Going into spots he would fire a promo that would be specific to each station. It could have been done at YAY/YAI but the problem is the jock can get messed up really easy! And 106.7/104.1 was using two signals as one to cover the same metro. The scenario I described was for two close-by but separate markets.

WYAY @ 106.5 60dbu map from the FCC

Can't get much better than that! Definitely a smart-move(in).

Wonder if they would want to get a hold of the WCNN call sign now on 680. Atlanta's All News 106.5 WCNN. The CNN brand though today doesn't hold the weight it did though years ago.
Is this contour factoring in the directionality?  Doesn't appear to be...FCC FM Query lists the app as directional but with no relative field values (along with said contour); the app itself suggests a very directional contour.

Re: WCNN-FM: see http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=211894.0

Actually, it can. That map does not reflect the directional attributes of the new antenna. A month or so ago, directionality was shown. Must be a bug.

The directional antenna has nulls to the northwest and southeast. You can get an idea of the new pattern's shape at http://fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=FM&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=1499991.

On the application, it has the tower location at "33-44-40.9 N 84-21-35.7 W" (with dashes). If you just copy and paste the "location" (with dashes) into Google Maps, you'll find yourself in a very interesting location ;D.

(Of course, take out the dashes, and you're back home...)

Soo.... it's WYAY's alternate tower site... wonder if they are taking applications to man it...? ;)

its already june and we have seen another application to pull 106.3 WQBZ even further away yet what would be co-channel 106.5 WSKZ still has no facility changes applied for.

Interesting. This might be why there hasn't been a big billboard push to announce the new station. Unless there has been. I haven't seen any.

Why promote when you're going to change it anyway?

... And now an amendment was filed requesting that the FCC dismiss the application.

"RADIO LICENSE HOLDING II, LLC REQUESTS DISMISSAL OF THIS APPLICATION. NO AGREEMENT EXISTS FOR THIS DISMISSAL. AMFM RADIO LICENSES, LLC, THE PARTY THAT FILED THE 'MOTION TO DISMISS' HAS BEEN SERVED A COPY OF THIS AMENDMENT."

What is going on here?

They might not be promoting the station yet until they get their feet wet, so to speak. Once they get all the kinks ironed out, I'm sure they will promote the station. Remember, this is not like a music station. There is a large staff that needs to gel before they can have a hit.

AMFM=Clear Channel

I know AMFM is Clear Channel, I just don't understand what they have to do with this.

I wish all of the supporting documents were with the app. There is obviously a story with this app, but we really don't have enough info to follow the story.

Radio License Holding + AMFM/CC's response to this dismissal: "Yay!" ::)

I wonder if there is an IF issue with one of their other stations? I thought the IF issue with 96.1 was "solved" with the 106.7 to 106.5. I forget the formula but one of the engineer types who use it daily can fill us in.

Cumulus Media’s “All News 106.7” WYAY won’t be moving closer into the Atlanta metro after all. The FCC has dismissed a proposal to change its city of license changes from Gainesville, GA to Sandy Springs — about 50 miles closer to the metro — and move from 106.7 to 106.5 FM.

To say WYAY "won't be moving after all" doesn't necessarily mean this is the be all and end all. It looks like the parties involved dismissed their applications. So, it would be possible for them to refile them, or file them without a defect they found, at a later date. True, it doesn't look like it's moving at this time, but there's still a chance it could happen eventually. I don't know how good that chance is, but it does exist.
