WYGB Freq Swap

This is public knowledge now, so here goes. Look for WYGB 102.9 Edinburgh/Columbus to shut down around 9:30AM today & re-appear (after antenna mods) this afternoon on 100.3. Reception reports appreciated.

Good news. KORN Country gets a new sweeper package.

WIUX signed off 100.3 Sunday night at 11:59:55PM and was on 99.1 at 12:00:10 AM Monday morning. Took about 15 seconds. Rumor has it that they hired mentalist Uri Geller to help with the frequency switch.

Just finished filing the new WIUX license application with the FCC for 99.1. It should
appear on the FCC database shortly.

100.3 shoud be a better frequency for WYGB with better coverage. Should be able to
hear it in Indianapolis.

Now I must go to napster.com and get me a copy of that Tie Me Kangeroo Down Sport song
KORN is playing on repeat.

Good luck guys!

I wonder when the other part of this swap happens... when WXCH 103.1 moves to 102.9 and enters the Columbus market.

Any rumors about what format this station is going to run?

Rain delayed the start of the project. 102.9 went down around 11AM with 100.3 coming up around 5:08PM. The antenna was close enough in freq that ERI was able to tune it to 100.3 with great success. Any signal reports will be appreciated!

My Guess WXCH will move in to 102.9 and columbus market as soon as Korn is on 100.3. then as soon as WXCH is off of 103.1. WRKA in Louisville will get its power boost which is part of this deal too if i recall right

Worth noting that WXCH and WRKA haven't been granted CP's to move yet. I suspect that will happen in the near future now that WYGB has moved. Maybe someone knows what will become of WXCH from an owner and/or format standpoint, but if they do, they aren't talking where I can hear...

I saw that amendment and it makes zero sense. I believe it can be 6KW omni at the location where the 500W at 14 meters was spec'd. Either there's a typo somewhere or there's some strategic reason to apply for this to keep someone from boxing them into the originally spec'd site. Anyone with any theory on why this was filed?

If there's a non-compete, he has never shared that with me. I kind of doubt it for the reason that Columbus/Seymour/North Vernon are effectively 1 market. I have known of stations that filed at a location & sat on the CP just to keep others from limiting future options. But whether something like that is happening here is hard to say. WRKA has a lot more riding on this moving forward than WXCH. I think they will be the driving force in getting whatever WXCH is going to do moving ahead.

I do not have a reliable source on this, but I believe Marty Pieratt has already sold WXCH, Lock, stock and barrel.
He is operating it under an LMA while it remains in Versailles, but the real owner is the consortium that put the 7 station deal together in the first place (CRX Holdings, I believe).
By the way, by moving to 100.3, couldn't they have been able to get at least 25KW as a Class B1, there is nothing on either adjacent or co channel. The departed WIFE was a class B so it leaves a B footprint; it does look like a B1 would work on paper.
Just curious.
Now that the move is done, the FCC will issue the CP to move WXCH from Versailles to Hope Indiana, and when that's done WRKA will get it's upgrade (the big money was spent for this station, although there are 4 moves yet to come after WRKA gets it's increase).
WYGB sounds like a local in Martinsville this morning.

WYGB had to be 71 miles from 100.5 in Louisville to qualify for 6KW as an A at their present site. They just made it. A to A from Cincinnati's new 100.3 is also 71 miles. That has a few miles to spare but not enough to jump up to a B1. Like all stations in the Columbus area, reaching Seymour & North Vernon counts for a lot. So even if there was a place where it could have been a B1, it would have been farther from those two cities & therefore not attarctive.

Thanks for the Martinsville report. I was there last summer for the county fair & it was pretty ragged. Glad to hear it's improved!

I live just north west of Lafayette. Couldn't get KORN before because of the local on
102.9. On 100.3 it sounds good. My antenna has 13db gain is up 45 feet and is directional.
Makes KORN sound like a 100 KW. I am 100 miles away.

100.3 can never be a Class B again in central Indiana unless you can undo all of the Connersville /Cincy changes.

WIUX made their change when they called Korn up to find out when in July they were going to make their freq swap. Seems that's when the settlement agreement they signed called for the change.

Station had wide band tranmitters and antennas that required minimal adjustment.

Also worth a mention is that Connersville was short spaced to WWKI/Kokomo. Even with undoing the changes that occurred, there couldn't have been a new B assigned...even in Connerville.

With a little more swapping, this frequency could be the next Indianapolis commercial rimshot worth
millions of dollars. I'm sure no one's thought of this.

I thought of this long ago, but not with more swapping. It will fit between Edinburgh & Franklin as is, but it's worth more to the owner where it is now. I guess it comes down to being a medium sized fish in a small pond vs a tiny fish in a great lake. I think I'd opt for the first myself...
