WYGB Freq Swap

Here's a mobile report for you, Bob...I commute daily from the southwest side of town (Mann Road) to Post Road on the eastside....I work directly behind the BIG tower. I was listening to Tie Me Kangaroo Down, one of my all time favs, (I remember them stunting with this song a few years back..the home of the one hit wonders as they called it) and the station was fairly solid with some mobile chop as I made my way around 465. Once I got off at Brookville Road, it got to be a lot noiser, and almost unlistenable once I was going up Post Road for obvious reasons, but I could barely hear it in the parking lot despite all the RF floating around. Overall, it's a huge improvement over the 102.9 frequency. I listened on the way home, and it was pretty much the same until a state trooper decided to ruin my afternoon on the south side of town...ouch.
Kudos...the station DOES sound good!
 
Thanks for that report Dan. There's a ridge around Greenwood that keeps stuff from the South from getting a good shot at Indy, but it sounds like K O R N is breaking through it as well as could be expected. All reports I'm getting show a greater improvement than what I expected. Even in the "main lobe" of the old DA, there's more than a 3KW > 6KW improvement, which further reinforces my theory that directional antennas are a tool of last resort. At a bank in Franklin, the signal went from a total "no show" to being listenable and this was generally in the 3KW direction...another example of how there's more improvement than expected. The real test was passed...the old KORN was not there on the radios in the Wal-Mart Electronics Department on US 31. The old signal shot only 170 watts across Columbus. It's rock solid at 100.3. They make expensive field strength meters & other PC based signal measuring programs, but at the end of the day, if an A plays in the Wal-Mart at 5 miles, you've taken a seat with the big boys...
