Ummm..."The Zone" is a rock format. http://www.thezone941.com/ (though the name has also been used in regards to sports talk, which I don't think will happen in this case...but then again???).
 
Well you know, the Spanish language niche is available again. Seriously though, what's it matter. It won't be anything spectacular. If there is a change soon, you know they'll target those soccer moms or the 17 year old white males with futures that include lengthy periods of time idled away in the fine art of license-plate making.

Football on a female tilting station? I don't know... But outside of Eagles season, what does The Zone mean in a rock format? Oh, yeah, I forgot ... Opie and Anthony in the AM and whatever sticks when we throw stuff against the wall, you rockers!

Listening to 104.5 today I will say that CBS is sensing a wide open lane for hard rock again...it's gonna be 2003 all over again.

Call Kidd Chris and ask him about The Zone. The staion name is also that Free FM in dominatrix gear that operates out of Pittsburgh on 93.7 that got placed on air to replace Pittsburgh's K Rock. The name The Zone is generically used, but each time I hear it as it relates to radio stations, the house of has beens in Greentree comes to mind each time.

Hey, in Atlanta, CBS runs Falcons football on AAA "Dave-FM".

Maybe that's what 94.1 will switch to... AAA...

That's what I thought K-Rock would switch to, especially after CBS flipped a station down in DC to an enviornmentally friendly AAA format, and I'm bitterly disappointed that they didn't. I can't believe that a market like New York which has such a large proportion of well educated residents doesn't have a World Class Rock-type station! We had one in the 1970s and 1980s with WNEW-FM, and the population back then was on average much less educated.

Isn't The Zone a term used to describe Adult Alternative stations? I know there were stations in Phoenix and Minneapolis that branded themselves as that, and as far as I know neither were CBS/Infinity properties.

It doesn't broadcast in NYC proper, but I'm pretty sure that 107.1 The Peak (WXPK - http://www.1071ThePeak.com ) puts a signal into the market. I would be willing to bet that many don't know about it given its low visibility and lack of promotion.
 
What about an 80's and 90's rock station? Bring back a little of the hair metal, and mash it in with with some of the 90's stuff? Just a thought...

I don't know. I probably would work for a little while, but it would be something different?

Well, since Clear Channel flipped 104.5 to sorta-rock solely based on posts on this message board (we have that power with a multi-billion dollar company), we shouldn't be guessing at the format -- we should be telling CBS what the format should be!

94.1 IS GOING QUAD AGAIN!!!!!! I just saw them installing it at the transmitter!

Which brings up another possible format. The jack format has backfired in certain markets (such as NY), and 98.1 probably would've been a jack, if not for ben.

However, since then, we have learned that BEN is one of the better performing stations in this market.

Damn! How cool would that be? Last I heard Scruff was out of radio. Had some health issues, but I have not heard anything in over a year.
