Let's see, right now WYSP is the FOURTH rocker in town behind WRFF, WMMR and WMGK. That means they're not getting in on a lot of media buys, and they can't charge "top of the card" rates for the ones they can. Overall music stations outcume talk stations, but that doesn't always translate to billing. It's all about the Benjamins...
Meanwhile, CBS has a heritage sports station stuck on AM, and the rights to the Eagles and the Phillies. Doesn't it make sense to overhaul the brand, put it on FM and combine all the sports p-b-p on the same frequency? That would totally outcume what 94.1 is doing now, and most likely would chase 97.5 out of the format, adding those listeners as well. CBS has been doing well with FM sports talk, particularly in Boston & Pittsburgh, plus they're adding new markets like Cleveland. The formula is obviously working. It makes all the sense in the world.
