Just some thoughts here at this point .....
WIP was granted a CP for a pattern change seven months ago. They'd keep the same 5000 watts, but have different day/night patterns instead of the one they've used 24/7 for decades ....
Eagle 107 from Sunbury carries (of course) Eagles games on their 107.3 FM. During the rest of the week they're a modified Classic Rocker with a huge playlist ; modified meaning not very much hair-metal. They showed somewhat in the middle of the pack in the last Sunbury-Selinsgrove-Lewisburg ratings I saw. But those numbers weren't continuous and may not even exist anymore ......
WIP has a pretty nice signal up this way (Schuylkill County) pretty much 'round the clock. I always enjoy their programming whenever I have the occasion to tune in. Now, I'm a distinct minority as far as listening habits go, but a big Philadelphia boo from here if they go to 94.1. Giant Hot-AC '94 KX', out of Sunbury, is on 94.1 and is too much of a prohibitive obstacle to reception ......
I'm puzzled about the simulcast rule. Initially, the FCC decreed that AM-FM combos in big markets had to program separately a certain number of hours per day. Naturally, there are ways around regulations which are almost tradition at this point, but was the spirit of that rule rusted out by the first de-regulation wave? ......
The poster (Holcomb?) who pointed out the 'less music' syndrome gets a big amen from me. It seems that those in charge of FM programming are managing to turn the FM dial in all those big markets into the next Short Wave dial faster than AM did ......
No one put a gun to the heads of FM music programmers and forced them to stream music and pay more to do it. Perhaps some of these CEO's and managers would do themselves well by banding as one and refusing to pay the exorbitant rates. I'd suggest they start the negotiations with threatening not to pay any .....
Of course, such a boycott would help out the smaller, independent internet radio stations, eh? .....
