WYSP To Flip To WIP Simulcast "By Labor Day"

Which small CBS owned radio station gets the WYSP call letters parked on it? WBCN is down in Charlotte and WHFS is in DC. Or Park them on WYUU in Florida. It's a spanish station and the call letters don't mean anything and are not heritage CBS/Infinity/Westinghouse call letters. I'm still surprised that CBS let the WCAU call letters get away to NBC. NBC10 has never used it's call letters in its ID.

Who knows? Maybe they'll do an even swap: 94.1 WIP and 610 WYSP

Maybe, but I wouldn't. On a station like WIP, which uses the call letters on the air all the time as part of its positioner, it would be better to have the stations be WIP and WIP-FM.

Listening to the Eagles coverage for a few minutes last night. What's the point of Merrill Reese adding the tag going into commercials: "Eagles Radio Network [pause] on Ninety Four WYSP." I would think they'd want to start branding the network with "WIP" as soon as they could.

Does anyone else think Andy Bloom is completely lying about Eskin? I totally believe he was pushed out. I would have removed Ike Reese and see if Eskin beat Missanelli on FM...I still think he could have.
On another note why on earth would they bring Michael B. in?? I like the concept of Daily News Live but find him so annoying, unfunny and awkward. I think that was a huge mistake. I'm fine with Anthony and Glen moving up...I think I would have removed Ike completely and brought in new talent fo mid days..not Barkhan...Or mac and mac middays..Gargano drive time with a new patner.

Good idea, Bill - it could be Philly's way of repaying Cleveland for the ol' KYW/WKYC switcheroo.

Considering Bonaduce (whom Marc Rayfield admits was the main obstacle between WIP simulcasting on 94.1 sooner) has a little while left to go on his contract... where will you put him? Maybe he can start checking in on Don Geronimo's morning show in Sacramento... Jennifer Reed? Eagles Radio sideline reporter. Gordon? WPHT update anchor. Spike? I'll get back to you on that one.

BTW - I'd love audio of Stern's WYSP comments from Thursday if anyone has it.

There's a rumor (and just that) which has Danny Bonaduce scooting over to... CBS's classic rock WNCX/Cleveland! Taking over for the floundering "Maxwell," who has about a month left on his contract, and was totally bypassed for considering on sister station "92.3 The Fan," which launches a week beyond WYSP goes bye-bye. Not to mention that Bonaduce is more compatible with WNCX's classic rock format than Maxwell's act.

(It's not the first time WNCX has done something like this: former Humble Pie lead Jerry Shirley was WNCX's morning host pre-Stern, then scooted to overnights for a few years. And of course longtime Cleveland musician/hometown favorite Michael Stanley has anchored WNCX afternoons for 21 years.)

It actually makes sense, if you think about it...

Cleveland? I don't see Bonaduce lasting long in "Mistake By The Lake."

1969 called. They want their joke back. ;D

That being said, I'd laugh my butt off if that DID happen. CBS has to put him SOMEWHERE...

i tell you what...the new 94 WIP better have some totally revamped imaging. how about an updated jingle package instead of the one jingle they've been running after the update for 20 years? music beds that don't sound utterly cheesy out of breaks would be nice. and would it be possible to run the update at the top of the hour like every other sports station in america does? i know philly listeners normally don't like change (or so the focus groups claim), but you'd swear it was still 1993 listening to 610's current presentation.

i wonder if greater media would strike back by moving the fanatic to 95.7 ?

but move the espn stuff to 950 am
950 should have been airing ESPN radio 24/7 (expect for local play by play or programs bumped by other programming on 97.5), a while ago.

They aren't owned by ESPN. There is no requirement to air their crap.

But when you sign a contract, you most certainly are obligated to live up to it.

All of it...clearly not. (Or else ESPN would long ago have enforced that contract.) But they are obligated to air some (not much more than the morning show it would appear).

AFAIK, if a station doesn't clear "Mike & Mike," it would have to clear either Colin Cowherd and/or Scott Van Pelt as a condition of the affiliation.

Most ESPN stations clear M&M just to avoid the trouble. The only exceptions I know of off the top of my head are WEEI/Boston and WGR/Buffalo, neither of which have ever aired one second of the show ('GR clears Colin; 'EEI syndicates their daytime programming to stations around New England in their own right and was granted an exemption from the "must-carry" rule).
