WZMY Lays Off Al Kaprielian

This is how things should have gone in 2006:

CW affiliation goes to WSBK

MyNetworkTv affiliation goes to WLVI.

Why did CBS insist on WSBK returning to it's independent status?

I really hope WZMY loses their MyNetworkTv affiliation and the affiliation finds somewhere else here in Boston, not Derry New Hampshire.

Well 2010 should br an interesting yearfor zmy-tv....
Seriously what do they have left now that Al is gone?

I like WSBK as independent. And that gives CBS the option to have it carried nationally as a Superstation. It can also double as a secondary CBS affiliate when BZ preempts programming.

They didn't. Remember that CW was a merger of WB and UPN, and that Tribune had an interest in The WB as a result of providing a slew of top-market affiliates for the network. One of the conditions of the merger was that the markets that had both a CBS-owned UPN affiliate (like WSBK) and a Tribune-owned WB affiliate (like WLVI) be divided up evenly.

I don't remember the full list of those markets off the top of my head, but a few that come to mind are Philadelphia (where CW went to CBS and WPSG while Trib's WPHL ended up with My), Dallas (where CW went to Trib's KDAF and CBS' KTXA went indie) and Miami (where CW went to Trib's WSFL and CBS' WBFS became a My affiliate - I think it's the only My affiliate CBS owns).

If Tribune had already sold WLVI to Ansin before the WB/UPN merger, things would undoubtedly have wound up differently in Boston - WSBK would surely have become "CW38," and WLVI would probably have gotten My.

I just saw his weather report and he thanked "Joe" our future meterologist for this beautiful tie I'm wearing.

I believe he would call kids that send stuff in "future meteorologists," so I'd bet on that being what he was talking about, not a replacement.
