X(E)PRS has changed again (or is stunting)

Well, it's now obvious a stray "1" got into the original post, more than doubling the actual count, which throws my calculations way off.

It looks like the mandated commercials total no more than two minutes per hour. It has always seemed ridiculous to me that they are mandated on stations programmed entirely in English, though.
I've heard those announcements in English translation, at least in the San Diego-Tijuana area. I was able to pick up XEPRS in Santa Cruz with a very good signal on Saturday night - despite local 1080 KSCO, which is now quite distorted and undermodulated. I could keep the Qodosen DX-286 at its default 4 kHz bandwidth setting and be able to hear XEPRS quite well. It was doing the Spanish-language Catholic folkie-sounding music at the time; right in the middle of that - cutting off a tune -came one of the government announcements...in English! I could tell it was a translation because the English was a bit awkward at times, though with perfect American English pronunciation.

Plus the 2 five minute PSA's, which I've heard a few times, and are extremely long, but has to be aired uninterrupted.

The PSA's can be aired in English, but requires a lengthy approval process from the IFT. XHPRS-FM received their approval for English while they were Walrus FM.

Very sloppy. They come in at the top of the hour half way through a song and have heard songs cut off at they approach the top of the hour. El Chingón said last week that they were going to go oldies all day but that has not happened. He said they are still working with the owners of the station on that. As of now he in only on from 2PM to 3 PM between MG Kelly and Don Steel. I still wonder if they are having transmitter issues I try to listen indoors at work in Simi Valley some times it comes in good and other times it is terrible.

This is confusing....after Wolfman Jack it was back to Monte Maria. I thought it was supposed to be Oldies 24 hours a day. Are they just not ready to fully launch it? It's a confusing mess of Spanish language Catholicism and good time Oldies. YIKES!

I have only heard the INE guidelines in English, since this electroral entity has fiscal times, more so in electroral times. The process is analyzed in the assembly where all political parties participate and it is determined that the station transmits more than 85% in another language so that it has access to a special program. The same thing happens with some indigenous stations in the interior of Mexico. By the way, the federal government's spots are not translated.

Well now, it's Sunday 11/10/24. The music on 1090 is definitely NOT 60s oldies. This morning (4am) it was Spanish religion. (Monte Maria?) Now it seems to be what was on yesterday afternoon - with a voice that said "Barix audio over IP". Today, it was "Customized Radio". (Playing "Last Night A DJ Saved My LIfe" by Indeep.) It appears that the touted "Oldies" programming is only sporadic and not consistent. I've heard Charlie Tuna (Friday), what could have been MG Kelly (also Friday)-and last week "El Chingon". The music source is stereo for the oldies programming, but only one channel seems to be feeding the transmitter. "Five O'Clock World" by The Vogues sounded more like 2:30. Tough to hit a moving target. The name Marc Paskin has surfaced as the manager of the station-interesting stats from Wikipedia: Marc Paskin - Wikipedia

Yep, it's a programming trainwreck. Along with what you mentioned is the constant up and down powering of the signal. When its at lower power, the static gets to be annoying. I pretty much have stopped listening. This has failure written all over it.

customized radio/barix audio over ip is the same thing.

its the barix ip audio appliance test channel that comes as the default link in the barix, that some never remove

so either something coming in to the "new" XEPRS studio didnt connect and it went to the nextr stream in the set up.. or the stream to the transmitter failed

I’m curious if whoever is running the station now didn’t jump the gun in sharing all that info for the RadioInsight article before they had all their pieces actually in place

Yup, El Chigon is Mark Paskin.. ding!

It sounds a bit, well, er, "racist" to use a vulgar Mexican name by a non-Mexican, doesn't it?

Wikipedia: "Marc Paskin is an American multi-millionaire from La Jolla, California. Formerly in the real estate industry, Paskin later became known for partaking in various forms of charitable activities."

Note: there was a case of someone applying for and getting the California vanity plate, "CHINGON". As soon as that was reported to the DMV, the name was called "indecent and offensive" and the plates were "recalled" and the owner given different ones.

Paskin's marijuana oriented format was actually more coherent than this. Oh the irony.
There really was a 'Pot Rock' station in Colorado, and with the call letters KBUD! 😄 Were the core artists Phish, Bob Marley, and the Insane Clown Posse? Were they just stunting, or was this the permanent format? Yeah, I dont hold much promise for 1090, based on that past decision (which lasted a few months).

Well, that reduces the chances of him suddenly being unable to make the lease payment. This probably lasts as long as he's interested.
