Re anyone challenging the move, I bet Saga will. They challenge everything.

yeah cause they can't move 104.3 or 107.9 any closer to Columbus... but I don't see Clear Channel having much issue moving tower site as they will still be able to service the COL without an issue...

First signal, then programming. Not the other way around. Formats and styles change, so why would you downgrade a signal that much. Just to serve campus? You think you're going to get a bump ratings? NO. The college peeps don't like corpaorte radio, and most use Pandora/online anyhow. One of CC's not so smart moves. If you're getting the most out your b1 signal at 7k, then do a 14k,or 22k. The tower where they want to go is in a valley! Just my opinion, but ... wow.

I kinda thought the same thing, but everyone here so far disagrees. The modified version of the coverage is on par with 98.9 and 105.7, but with the current format, I don't see them doing much better either.

Hey if the Alternative fails .. They could put WTVN on FM! or an Urban format......

I still think this is a wise move.. Clear channel rather have a 'clear' signal in town then cover a bunch of farm fields north east of Columbus...

Now the station will come in with no static in Columbus, and it will probably still come in pretty good in surrounding communities like Marysville, Delaware and whatnot. Seems like a smart move to me. I wish Radio-Locator had a map, cause recnet makes it look like the station completely fades out after you leave the city, and that's not the case at all. A good example is 98.9 and 105.7. You can easily pick those stations up with a decent signal all the way to both Delaware, and Marysville. So, in my opinion, it's a good move.

Change 105.7 to alternative and leave 1067 as is...then change to wtvn. Also increase power to 14kw from 7k. Better penetration into the downtown.

Also find it funny Nu roo finds this as a good move since she always bemoans the fact columbus doesn't have any BIG signals.

this is a good move, from a technical standpoint. it puts a better signal in the middle of an metropolitan area, is cheap and easy to operate, thus, in the real world, makes the signal much more valuable. higher antennas and more power is generally a good thing, but not when the coverage is not over the core metro...

I am sure that anyone who know radio engineering would agree with me, mark b, where are you? as far as what they program on it, who really cares, as most of it is imported content anyway.

What I find more interesting is the FCC's apparent back door entrance into programming, IMHO, My feeling is that if there is a local license, and somebody promises to do local vs imported, they should be given that opportunity to do so. Can you imagine the furor that will cause?

wilson, if you're upset that you'll no longer be able to pick up 106.7 at your outhouse in Bugtussle you can always try filing an objection with the FCC.

If they are no challenges for the tower move, then maybe the FCC will grant this application is a few months time and if so, I wouldn't at all be surprised if CC has this new tower site on the air by the end of the year or early next year.
That said, I ran this application across a seasoned FCC Consulting Engineer for his opinion on this it.
His response was "no comment" but he said "It will be interesting to see if the FCC actually dose
grant this application". That said, it doesn't look like FCC approval is a sure thing, even without
any challenges to this tower site move.

106.7's tower site change to Dodridge St [old Ch6 tower site] has been approved.

FCC Approval

60 dBu coverage map

In a slight way 106.7 is going home.. If I am not mistaken that was the location of the Sandyland Translator that was on 106.7 prior to Clear Channel moving the license from Marion to Columbus.

I did look at the range on that new location and noticed south of Columbus won't be affected. But north of Columbus gets a 20 mile drop in range. That means bye bye to being able to listen to it in Mansfield or Upper Sandusky were you can hear the station at the current site.

So how long until this gets built? End of the year? Format guesses?

If they don't give 'X' a shot on a different stick, I could see FM talk, FM shock talk, or a sports format moving to 106. They're not going to do anything that rivals NCI, COL, Brew, or 933, so we'd likely see a younger, male-friendly format.

The brightside to alternative right now is that for the first time in years, the format has a lot of crossovers burning up CHR: Fun, Foster the People, Coldplay, Alex Clare, Gotye, Grouplove, Linkin Park, Neon Trees, No Doubt, etc.

My only frustration with 'X' is that it seems every time I tune in, it's another 90s gold track (RHCP, Pearl Jam, etc) that I've heard hundreds of times. I'd tune in more if I could count on new music, 75-80% of the time. WNCI went through a year or two period up until recently where I hardly heard any gold or recurrents. The lists were tight and they burned out the tracks, but they were quick to move on to the next single. Would love it if 'X' could do that... Keeps the format fresher.

When is this move happening? I noticed RDS wasn't working this afternoon. Maybe moving some equipment in preparation?

You must be talking about the CP X1067 has to move it's antenna to the WOSU tower just
north of the OSU campus. Wasn't even aware they were granted a CP to move their antenna until
I read this post. The CP info:

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=1498609

Find it interesting the FCC granted this CP to WCGX, X1067.

It will probably happen soon knowing how fast CC Columbus is able to get new tower sites like this up and running. I wouldn't be surprised if it's and running by the end of the year.

Here is the new Coverage Map by Radio-Locator(For entertainment purposes only as they say):
