Wikipedia.com is saying that there is going to be a possible buy out or format change on Z90, is this true.

And if they do change you think the station might go back to a classic rock station just wondering.

If it is on the internets, it must be true; especially Wikipedia.

I was there when Z90 made the change from a sort-of-classic rock format to urban and they've had a good 20 year run, but in recent years it's been run by old white guys who just do not have the street smarts that made Z90 thrive in its heyday.

Way to stick it to "the man!"

But... You ARE "the man," aren't you?
-"Yes, I know..."

So, you're sticking it to yourself?
-"Maybe..."

LOL ;)

It's from a TV commercial.

When Z-90 started Victor Diaz brought in various experienced PD's including Rick Thomas (who, to his credit, was very good at doing promotion with no promotion budget) but the station really did not take off until Victor stopped bringing in the same old radio veterans and instead basically turned over to some young folks who had very little radio experience, but knew music and knew what they and their friends wanted to hear. There was zero research, no ARBITRON ratings subscription, no big time morning show (one thing I did was to convince Victor to go "more music in the mornings" and stop trying to find a morning team to compete with Jeff and Jer). But, the station made big profits and for several years really had no competition. Victor always thought it did well because of the his "Street Blimp," the big Z-90 bus, but really it was a case of some kids gone wild on a radio station with no adult supervision.

Here's the link, you have to do a search with the calls. Another Classic Rock station, puhleeze. Maybe Wille Morrow can pick it up again, oh, is he still around?

Classic Rock? That doesn't make sense unless you read between the lines. Were you there when Steve Wall was PD? He wanted to turn it into a 91X beach folks thing and get some females side 'bennies." That was Victor's baby. He must be rolling over in his grave. He was one awesome employer, he would always bat for you. Unlike others. Maybe Rick will respond.

Salud and Happy Labor Day!

I saw the Wiki for XHITZ the other day and it said "Rhythmic/Dance Formatted Top 40". Must have been one of those vandals over in the New York boards...

A 24/7 classic rock station would be welcome in San Diego. Why does KGB feel it necessary to rerun the morning show in the evening? It sort of comes off like a Howard Stern wannabe. Unfortunately KLOS coverage in San Diego is very spotty so its not always listenable when KGB is talking.

I agree. The show is repetitive and boring. I stopped listening years ago. The suits are probably saving $$$$$$ that way.

I wouldn't mind so much if they could make the rest of the day listenable, but their afternoon guy is so inarticulate it's like listening to some college kid trying to be a radio announcer: his mind can't travel as fast as his mouth.

Garrett,

Wasn't it a Jack In The Box commercial?

Lupit

Thanks to Bob H., Garrett, and Lupita for the answer to my question.... A commercial? No wonder why I couldn't find it when I Googled it. But no here (except maybe Lupita) remembered the product being advertised, just the dialogue. So while memorable, not effective if one can't remember who the advertiser was.

Well, the point of my posting it wasn't the product, just the dialogue which I thought relevant. But yeah, Jack n the Box sounds about right, and I agree that if we can't remember what the product was, perhaps the spot did not serve its purpose.

Has anyone heard that Rick Thomas no longer works for Z90? Who is programming the station, anybody know? I wonder why it was kept so hush, hush. Must have missed the post. According to my source he went back to Hawaii a couple of months ago.
