What's an AM station selling for these days?
Apparently WXLW was worth $150,000 to Randy Hood of Greenfield.

Agreed. An AM license for Indy still should be worth at least $750,000. I'd bet they could make decent
ratings if they did Oldies.
But, my guess is, here comes some more Christian radio.
I have nothing against religious broadcasting. And, AM is a decent way to send audio. But, unless
someone does something interesting on AM soon, it will die.
Has Progressive Talk worked anywhere? If failed in nearby Cincinnati on a 50,000 watt 24/7 signal, even with Jerry Springer doing a live air shift.Indy Legend said:I'd like to see progressive talk on WXLW. It would be nice if the half of Indy that isn't right-wing ditto-heads or Beck-aholics had talk radio to listen to. They really don't have anything to loose. The ratings can not possibly get any lower, why not give it a try? It's just crazy enough that it just might work. This is Indianapolis however so I'm sure we will end up with another conservitive talker. After all there's still a lot of 2nd rate 3rd and 4th teir righty talkers out there that haven't yet been thrust on us. God help us if there's anyone out there more boring and unlistenable than the two hour snorefest that is Fred Thompson.
I would love to turn on my radio and have the option of listening to Bill Press, Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartman, Randi Rhodes, and maybe Overnight America with Jon Grayson when I'm just not in the mood for flying saucers, conspiracy theories, the latest end of the world schedualed in 2012, or big foot.
Let me think...1530 in Cincy stopped playing oldies in 2005 IIRC...and that's when the Progressive Talk was started. The oldies were pulling 2-3 shares...seems like the Prog Talk struggled to reach a 1.0. They gave it a year or maybe a little more & went sports. I'd think a 1 share of Progressive Talk would be more sellable than a zero share of sports. I might also consider a simulcast of 95.9, which would allow them to have an FM translator for 950 which indirectly would be a translator for 95.9. Whatever they do, it's currently a loser with a decent daytime signal. Being third tier against some heavy hitters in sports doesn't seem like the wisest use of the frequency. I would say that maybe the 95.9/950 owners are Republicans & wouldn't air lib talk, but Jeff Smulyan is a Dem, but he's a businessman first & he knows where the money is.Indy Legend said:It is doing quite well in Portland that I know of and at least shows up in the arbitron ratings in most markets it is in. When was the last time WXLW did that ? How many years ago was it that it failed in Cincinnat? It's been a long time since Jerry Springer was on the radio. There are a lot of people who are tired of the same old Right-wing talk 24/7 on multiple stations in every market and would just like an alturnative. Cotrary to popular opinion not everyone is a Republican. If it fails it fails but it would be nice if it where given a chance. It has never been tried in Indy. Even if it did ultimatly fail what has WXLW got to loose in trying it ? When was the last time WXLW had a format that was successful ? If no one is listening anyway, instead of trying things that are already being done on other stations in town or that have failed over and over again in town why not just once try something that's never been done in Indy? If it ends up not working they can always start playing Christmas music next October.
