XM and Sirius Music Changes Next Week

Dude, I have to admit that there are some changes that no doubt upset some people. But not all tastes in listening have a complaint. I, for one, (being of a somewhat advanced age) have absolutely nothing bad to say about the changes. With the exception of a few pre-set button changes, I have lost nothing on my list of favorites. The only thing I hear different is a slight change from Audio Visions to Spa. But it isn't major, and considering what there is to listen to on terrestrial radio in Houston, XM as it was before and is after the changes, is still a heavenly experience. I am sure that I would say or would have said the same if I was subscribing to Sirius. Nowhere else (since I added the "Best Of..." feature) can I listen to the entire NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, Indy Car, and on occasion the PGA, as well as my favorite kinds of music, news and entertainment.
I concede that Mel and his little sunbeams have shaken the foundations of Sat-Rad. But remember what it was like before we even had Sat-Rad. I can remember not having TV. Now I, like most, would wither and dry up without it. I am very happy, at least for now, to have what is available in terms of Sat-Rad. It is so much more than I ever had before. Perfect? No! But still, it is better than nothing.
As my late Father-in-Law used to say, "Half a loaf is better than no coffee break at all."
I never dreamed I would be able to hear all these programs in my car, or be able to listen to one show or series all the way from Big H to Little D (250 miles) without ever having to change my radio dial. Sat-Rad, even in its current state of flux, is awesome to me, and, I suspect, to most subscribers.
Even with its faults.

The only channels left i like are

Caliente (Tropical m,sic)
The System (Totally awesome music)

XMLM was taken over by HARD ATTACK and sounds like crap... (I did like XMLM also before)

They didn't ruin my favorite so I'll stick around...

just curious - which channel is YOUR favorite? Me - I like 70's on 7, SoulTown, 60's on 6, Sirius Gold...i think Little Caesar and the Romans sang it best in 1961 - "those oldies but goodies".... ;);)

Andrea

1 Watercolors
2 60's
3 50's
4 CNN
5 70's

That's not all I listen to, but those are the top 5 on my list. I try to listen around just to see what's on the other channels. I hope they can get the stock out of the basement the local radio stations where I live are really poor.

Pretty cool, Mike - pretty cool... 8) i like a guy who likes what i like... ;)

???

The System, provided by WorldSpace, was replaced with Sirius' "Area". BPM is still around, and XM Chill was replaced by Sirius' Chill, which apparently includes such well-known downbeat electronic artists as Coldplay. ???

I've been listening to Chill the last couple of days, and it's slowly beginning to sound more like the original XM Chill format. I heard that mess they were referrring to as "Chill" the first day of the new lineup, and it didn't even remotely sound like XM's format. Fortunately, Sirius-XM must be taking heed to all the complaints they've been receiving about the channel.

I've was an XM subscriber for over two years before the merger. Now, in the span of one week, I've lost all passion for satellite radio.

My favorite channels were mostly the urban ones. Soul Street, The Rhyme and Suite 62 are now all gone, and I refuse to listen to their Sirius replacements. Before the stations themselves died, the personality was taken out of them.

My other favorite XM channel, MLB Home Plate, has let go some very knowledgeable and entertaining personalities in Mark Patrick, Ronnie Lane (even though his voice was more suited for one of the music channels), and Chuck Wilson. And Scott Walterman, their lead news guy on POTUS, was also among those who have been pink-slipped.

I was a big fan of the Mike and the Mad Dog show here in New York, but I've only listened to Chris Russo twice since he joined Sirius. And, I'm tired of hearing all the plugs for the Best of Sirius being jammed down our ears. Outside of the NFL, there's nothing in the package worth listening to for me (no, I'm not a Stern fan).

I subscribed for baseball, but I can always fall back on MLB.com for that. Though I'm highly upset at the boondoggled way the merger was executed, I'll give Sirius XM until February to change my mind. Otherwise, I'll be cancelling my subscription and selling my equipment.

Maybe the poster was listening online or something ?
Area needs to get better quickly !
I am not a disco fan but they got screwed bad.
BPM seems to be the only dance channel to not be totally butchered.

You obviously have excellent taste! ;D

I have also been known to listen to Escape. I miss the old "Beautiful Music" stations with their lush instrumentals. If I had a longer commute I'd listen to "Sonic Theatre".

Okay here is what I like from both services.
XM 20 on 20
Serius Hits 1
The Blend (Used to like Serious 2 Starlight as well)
50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's
The Pulse (liked Flight 26 as well)
(At Times) Beautiful Music
(At Times) BPM
Sunny (XM 24), Serius 4 Movein' Easy)
(At Times) XM 22 - Mix
(At times) XM 24 (The Pink channel) but much prefered Sunny
(at times) Serious/XM Love, or XM's "the Heart", Serius Love
I used to prefer Serious Spearet 66 (Christian CHR), but never did like XM's the Message nearly as much.
(at times) CNN headline news on XM.

XM channel 165 (Glen Deck - sounds much better then WPHT) But ironicly WPHT sounded better then XM when it was in AM Stereo (before IBOC took over the channel)
PS: We no longer have a Soft AC station (Xm Sunny 24 Reminded me of "Sunny 104.5" in Philly that we used to have here, but 24 had a much more expanded playlist.
I'd like Mix and The Pink Channel, and would have liked Movein' Easy, Sunny, etc better if they had jocks that were live.

I liked Serious's 50's channel better then XM's, as it more focus on later 50's-Early 60's.
Before the decaids channels were merged, I liked The Decaids channels from both services.
Water colors is what i have to listen too now, since WJJZ is gone. That's another one of those "At times" things.
I haven't checked out any of the country channels for either service when it was here, so can't comment on that. I just started gettin' into country not all that long ago. I've only heard it on Tereastreal radio.

This is my last post about channels until someone replys, I promiss.
I at times listened to the Spectrum on Serious 18. I also like Pop2K,, formerly XM 30 - The HitList. Good channel.
I liked Classic Vinyl better then Top Tracks. It seemed to have more jockage on it. Now maybe Top Tracks did at one point, I don't know.
Its good to hear Earl Baily on Deep Tracks. I didn't even know he was on there until a poster on here pointed that out. I always wondered what happend to him.
Okay I'm sooo done with channels for now.

Im with you. Suite 62 was the best presentation of an Urban AC format I have ever heard. Like I posted on another thread, Suite 62 invited you in to listen to the music. Heart & Soul may be the same musically, but the name change is so blasé.

We don't mind your rambling, but wish you'd spell Sirius correctly. ;D

Top Tracks hasn't had jocks for as long as I've had the service/can remember. Hearing Carol Miller or whatever her name is on there Friday night really screwed up the vibe. It'll take some getting used to hearing 2-3 songs then promos and DJ chatter versus the constant music it had as a "jukebox channel", which I think fit the format better.

Mostly I don't mind the changes. Some of the channels sound more "corporate" and "mainstream" but isn't really "bad."

The Message is still a good station and I really like that they added DJs. However, I do not like that the station is mainstream sounding. The music isn't bad at all but I did like that I could hear stuff on there that I wouldn't normally hear (ApologetiX, for example) on K-LOVE and the like. Maybe after some reaction from listeners, they will bring back some of this rare stuff.

I haven't read all the posts, but I don't like that Sirius/XM didn't add a Christian rock/CHR channel. All that are available in Christian channels are AC CCM, Urban Gospel, and Southern Gospel. You'd think that not only in the Christian channels, but others aas well, that with the merger of some channels that it would make other channels available for new formats that aren't being done or others that had been dropped in the past, which is the case with Christian rock.

Well, I really have no idea who will get the forthcoming "public interest" channels (6 on XM, 6 on Sirius) but I have been praying that at least one of them would go to a Christian CHR/Rock outlet like WAY FM or RadioU. We should find out more about this in the next few months.

Don't feel bad, anotherguy — they trimmed a lot of the less popular formats along with the Christian channels. It seems Uncle Mel's idea of weathering the coming financial storm involves copying FM radio and having as little diversity as possible, unless it's in the rock category. ::)

On this subject. While I don't spend a LOT of time on the Christian cahnnels, I do, on occasion, like to to hear some religious programming. However, all I seem to be able to find is old-style gospel, rock gospel, etc. I would like to hear a station with a Sunday morning Christian sound. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean 24/7 Mormon Tabernacle Choir. But a more typical Protestant/Catholic/Lutheran/Mormon Tabernacle Choir church service sound. Something more church than revival, if you get my drift. I am probably alone in this thinking, but at least to me it would be nice.

I'm only up to Page 3, but so far I am not liking the channels at all.
After listening to both services, I am an XM fan through and through. But a few questions...

Did Chicken Man, Wolfman Jack(started to get into his weird show for the first time), Cousin Brucie, MotorMouth and one or two other Disc Jockies from 60's on 6 make the cross over?
I'd hate to loose Cousin Brucie again.

Why did they ditch Chrome? They got another favorite, 'On the Rocks' earlier this year.

Sigh.... the only reason I cared for this merger was that it meant the survival of XM and hopefully very few changes. Now allot of changes, and I PRAY they don't mess with the play lists. I LOVE hearing songs that I've never heard before, but are just as good as the over played crap on T Radio..
